Best Cooling Solution?

I have an i7 940 and I have been running it at 191 x 21 since i got it. My current cooling setup is a TRUE black edition with two scythes 1600 rpm fans in push pull.

I've often been wondering if the new rev. C + 1366 true would get me more performance? Also, I wondered if I got two ultra kaze 3000 rpm if that would lower my temps? Lastly I just am looking for the best possible way to cool this CPU. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

You're not gonna see a big jump in performance since the TRUE is still one of the best cooler out there. But if you wanna see 1 or 2C in temp drop then you might wanna consider the TRUE copper, Megahalem or IFX-14. As for the Ultra Kaze 3krpm, unless you're okay with its noise then go for it since it moves lot of air but the thing is it's loud as heck. I was using 2 Ultra Kaze 2000rpm version and it works for me, performance falls right in between the 1k and 3k but ain't that loud.

New heatsink is not necessary. Using 2x Ultra Kaze would certainly lower your temps, but can you stand the noise?

So better fans are too noisy, and there is no better air cooler.
Is there any way to cool an i7 for 4GHz and above that you guys would suggest?

You trade off noise for performance and there are some that fall between the 2 like Scythe Typhoon, Enermax Magma...if you want the best of the best then take a look at the Delta fans but I'm sure you don't wanna sit next to a vacuum cleaner or hear the sound of the jet taking off. I've been using the Cooler Master R4 and Ultra Kaze 2k and quiet happy with them. Just get a good thermal paste like the Shin Etsu or Indigo Xtreme, slap on that TRUE with 2 good fans and you're good to go. Most people have no problem running a core i7 @ 4.0Ghz 24/7 with air cooling like myself.

You won't get much better than your TRUE, with good pressure onto CPU - see washer mod somewhere here on XS.
I assume that you've lapped it. If not, DO IT.

For minimum noise, 2 medium-speed fans should be better than 1 faster noisy one.

On some coolers, I think extra airflow won't help much, as past a certain point the fins are already cool and the heat bottlenecks are somewhere further down in the system - heatpipe capacity, cooler base-to-heatpipe transfer, uneven base or CPU surface, TIM quality, CPU silicon to CPU heatspreader.

If you want to look at other heatsinks, see the test linked from here: RoundUP: 23 SuperCoolers tested (extreme TDP, lapping, moding, 250CFM+)
Meghalems look good, and I just bought one.
Forget the IFX-14. The TRUE is better.

Megahalems looks good, but really, don´t expect that much coming from a TRUE. It still works like a charm.

A good lap job and pressure mod would give him better temps without the extra noise.

With the TRUE rev. B, does one still have to lap it? I have the rev. B and my temps are still about 40-42C idle and around 72-74C load in my Cosmos 1000 case. I have two scythe ULTRA KAZE 120mm Case Fan 2000rpm in push/pull on it and am very disappointed in the cooling. I'm at 1.23V or so on vcore in bios and I am at 181x20 with turbo and ht on. I'm thinking I need better case fans or need to reseat the hsf and reapply the TIM again on this thing. I don't think this rev needs a pressure mod and I was hoping I don't have to lap it but I might have to give that a try. I've never lapped anything before so I don't want to have to take the time to do that.
