New topping for my block

Hi guys,

this week im gonna make a new topping for my block (actually it has a 939 socket acrylic topping with a thin acrylic bracket over it to fit am2 socket)

the project:



exploded view:



It will be a metal topping over an acrylic one. I want to give the metal that chromed looking (like this: http://www.extremerigs.com.au/images/apogee_gtzse.jpg)

Wich metal should i use? Wich metals get chrome coating?

they usually copper plate before they chrome plate it anyway, since chrome doesnt "stick" well to other metals (not even copper but its the least bad one i guess)
but afaik that one you linked to is just polished stainless steel. (not sure though)

Hmm, thats okay. I think i'll use a piece of steel do make it.

Im thinking on making the middle part in acetal instead of acrylic. I've also modified a bit the steel top.

smart choice on the delrin. a lot more resilient to cracks than acrylic. not worth it if you're not going to be able to look into it anyway.

yes but it also limits option with LED's.
which in this case would be just glowing from the side....

well, you could do a thin acrylic plate the exact same shape as the steel one, and put it under that steel one.

Hi guys,

unfortunately i couldnt find yet the acetal. So, by now i'll make it using acrylic and when i find acetal i'll do it again.

Try asking for some of it's other names as well. Some ppl may never have heard of acetal but may have heard of POM or Delrin among others.
