Will these heatsinks be enough to couple with a gpu only 5850 block?
http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/prod...roducts_id=578
I intend to have a fan blowing towards them and already have heatsinks for the RAM.
Also, just to clarify, which areas, other than the RAM, will need cooling if I go for a GPU only waterblock? Sorry for my lack of technical knowledge, but I know that the three chips behind the silver rectangle on the right need cooling, and possibly the one between the two holes on the top right. Is that correct?
sorry, this is in the wrong forum, i thought that i was posting in Liquid Cooling. would a mod mind moving this for me? thanks.

Should be enough I believe.
Also, as an alternative, you could mod your stock heatsink - cut a hole for your GPU waterblock leaving the remaining part to cool the rest of your card.

I already have a maze 4 and don't want to spend the money on a full cover block, they are too expensive.

I think you will have problems with securing these to so small chips.

Good point. What would be the best way to do so if I don't want to have to buy a full cover block?

anyone else think that this is a bad decision? I really need a new GPU and would like a 5850, but the price of that plus a full block is just too much money to spend imo.

5850 you dont have to cut anything stock heatsink fits anyways with gpu only block
only 5870 you need to cut out...
anyway imo use that with the upcoming swiftech heatsink unisink block thing next month which is like £20/25 cooling everythign then much better idea

You could by one of those Zalman 48xx VRM sinks and use thermal tape... would work great and cost the same.
I planned on releasing a 58xx VRM kit but haven't gotten around to it.

I'm confused. Doesn't the swiftech heatsink replace the stock heatsink? how would you use both? Or when you said 'use that' did you mean use the Maze4 with the swiftech unisink?

That looks really good, I wasn't aware of them. Do the 5850's not need cooling on the chip towards the top left that I pointed out in the first post. I could have sworn that I read somewhere that it did, but I can't find it now and it may have been talking about the 5870.

You can either use the stock heatsink and just install the Maze 4 on the GPU, or you can try the Swiftech unisink. I'm not certain if the Maze 4 is compatible with Swiftech's heatsink.
If it isn't, a Swiftech MCW60 and the unisink are normally a good 30-40 dollars under the full cover options.

yes but the swiftech looks nicer and acts as a proper heatsink etc a lot of surface area and stuff

As far as my budget will allow, the only options are to buy a 5850, use the stock heatsink and put the maze 4 on the gpu.... ( is this even possible and is it hit and miss as to whether or not the maze 4 will fit with the heatsink? )
or
To install the maze 4 with heatsinks for the ram and a Zalman 48xx VRM heatsink... in which case I still need to know if the chip that I circled below also needs cooling.
