Newb to Liquid Cooling
Hey there guys, So, I am pricing out this computer and originally when I thought out the computer in my head, I told myself "I am going to only do Air Cooling!" so I built this computer for air cooling, super effecient, massive heatsync. The build will be in this post. This will be my first computer build ever and the deadline is about December 1-2 so I have time to order it, put it together, and put it under the tree with a nice big bow on top!
What I would like to know, is if I choose the Watercooling route, What sort of upkeep do I need to do? A daily checklist for example, what I should look out for, If there is a specific kit I should get or if you could suggest parts (Including clamps, fans, radiators, ect) that I can buy seperately that will be very effecient.
My budget is $2000.

There is no 'daily checklist' so to speak, Once it's set up it's usually good for months at a time (a year or so) then usually all you need is a water top up or a drain then top up.
If it's done right, then the maintenence is very little.
As for parts generally you'll want to avoid kits, they're not very high quality generally although there are exceptions. In general a CPU block, such as the heatkiller, Radiator, pump and some form of reservoir or T-line is all you need.

eh.. 200 for a decent liquid system's a bit tight.......also don't but a premade system custom is just about the only way to go

If course, It would be more room without the $63 heatsync. so think more $260 ish, What about the Swiftech H20-22- Apex Ultima ? I have a buddy that has one of those and likes it, I would also like to be quoted a decent list, I'll probably have more room to play with after Black Friday as well, so lets say budget is $2050?

i'm assuming you only want to cool the cpu. I'm not american so i don't know prices in dollars so i apologise if i'm over your budget ^_^
Generally the accepted components are
The Laing DDC pump (with a top)
Heatkiller Rev. 3 CPU block
1/2 inch inner diameter tubing
Radiators are still split alot, personally i use thermochill PA series rads (for just the cpu you could possibly get away with a single 120mm rad but you might want a double 240mm just to be sure).
this is all subject to opinion and requirements of course but i personally wouldn't settle for anything less.

What barb size do I want? 1/2" plastic? 3/8" plastic? 1/2" EK barb? or 3/8" EK barb?
Edit://
I love your suggestions Dingdong555, that pushes the build to $2031.27 which I can cut down to allow the price to happen, I will definately be looking at that as a possibility. What sort of temps do you think I would be able to achieve?

VERY VERY good temps, especially since you're only running the CPU under water. I can't tell you exact temps but if you're not overclocking expect to be BLOWN away by the results

Hmm.. now, how to shave off $35... Perhaps get a different case that supports liquid cooling since I don't need all that much air cooling anymore, What do you guys think about the Xclio Blackhawk ?

You can get your SSD from mwave...$240 iirc.
Or you can move to an MCR320 radiator, it's $43 less, but roughly the same performance: http://www.jab-tech.com/Swiftech-MCR...r-pr-3320.html
EDIT: if you do both, you can go to the Apogee XT waterblock, which is even better than the GTZ

Looking through your hardware list, I'd change a few things
Change the motherboard to a newer version - EVGA SLI LE $239
Change the Power Supply to a Corsair (top quality + more reliable) - Corsair HX750watt $169
Change the case to one that can handle a triple radiator internally with NO modding - Coolermaster HAF RC932 $139
Change the Thermal paste, why pay $19 for something when you can pay $5 for a TUBE of paste that does the same thing? (Maybe 1*C less efficient!) - http://www.jab-tech.com/Arctic-Cooli...d-pr-3863.html $5

Does that Mobo support Xfire? I don't see anything about it inside of the specs, only SLI.
The only reason I picked the power supply is it is suppost to be one of the best 850 watt PSU's around, and it fits in the Antec, My previous choice was the Corsair 850TX Which I will revert back to.
I personally don't mind having the radiator on the back, it just is kinda one of those things where its like "Woah, thats a high preformance computer! look at the tubes!" Where would I put the radiator in the Haf? I can't see anywhere to put it except for laying on its back behind the PSU.
The reason I went with the $20 stuff is I read several reviews that submitted the same info, The thermal unit there is significantly cooler than even shin-etsu, here is a review right off the top of my head by Vapor himself (Hi vapor! <3 the review!) http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=232141

It's the Corsair HX series, not the TX series that is great.
A good place for PSU reviews is here:
http://www.jonnyguru.com/
And since you jumping in this so quickly and asking about barbs which is usually understood already, you should step back and read here for a while, all the guides etc.

That is baisically what this thread is for, I need info on some of the lingo, I will definately be reading your thread Conumdrum. I was just trying to get price and didn't know what is an optimal size for a build like mine.

Good! Once you understand the lingo and the basics in wattage and flow rates (don't have to be a scientist to figure it out) then you'll be ready to start selecting parts. And you won't have to ask so many questions.
The fancy Tpaste is really nice, but you'd be better served with a tube of MX-2 for now. Don't need any complexities for the first WC build.

Okay, I'll do that then, I would like my HAF question answered, or another case suggested so I can start planning out placement for things.

Artique ceramique TIM is good quality, cheap and easy to use. You should have a very nice system with revised spec above. be warned water cooling is addictive and will cost you a fortune in the long run lol

dantrona,
It fits in the top of the case (the mounting holes are already there for it) in place of the 230mm fan that is there (which you have to remove). I have this set up - it was my first w/c build too. For the rest see my sig. Temps at 4.2GHz and LinX are sub 65 degC at 24 degC ambient. HK 3.0 or the Swiftech XT is the way to go.

Great! Any idea where I can -buy- a Swiftech XT? I'm gonna start looking a little harder for it now, And any word on that MOBO that dingdong555 suggested? I am guessing its not crossfire avail?

dantrona,
I suggest you check several recent threads in this forum. Its only available in the US so far, and then only just. Those of us in Europe will have to wait . Vapor is testing it so we will soon (hopefully) see if it is really better than the HK 3.0, and by how much (but probably only by ~1 degC).
I can't help with the mobo - I have Gigabyte UD5.
BTW - although the Indigo xtreme looks really good, you need to follow the re-flow process to the letter - see Vapor's review. So you will need to use another TIM first so you can get the OS installed. I am using Shin-Etsu X23-7783D - the next best TIM according to Vapor's results.

I think you should get a higher rated power supply just for future upgrades.

dantrona,
What is the Case Fan Color Change x1 for? The HAF has a 140mm fan at the rear (but you can fit a 120mm there).
You should go with the 850HX Corsair - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139011 - the TX is rubbish (in comparision - all the reviews say so).
The best fans for the rad are probably the Scythe Gentle Typhoons (1850 rpm) if you can get them (the 1450 rpms are OK too). Though you may want a fan controller to slow them down (more cost!).
