Artic Silver 5. How many hours to settle in?

hi, i was wondering how many hours it takes for AS5 to settle in, so the cpu temp won't improve anymore.

From their site:

http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm

"Due to the unique shape and sizes of the particles in Arctic Silver 5's conductive matrix, it will take a up to 200 hours and several thermal cycles to achieve maximum particle to particle thermal conduction and for the heatsink to CPU interface to reach maximum conductivity."

So optimum thermal potential may take "upto 200 hours", you will see differences after 2-3 hours but!

^^i think i'll finish my AS5 before moving to something else

200 hours is too long. i was asking because i want to compare two coolers, and i want to do it fair because one them is being used for long time. so i guess i will give the other one 48 hrs of burn in and call it a day

Eww referring to this suggestion being a no go and just for you Mx2, tried and tested being a great thermal compound. Oh and also try shinetsu too I've had some good results with them.

affter 12hours its normally as good as gets and its better than the zalman stuff when its fresh.

but get mx2 or mx3, they are better than as5. mx2 is easier to use but runs a little hotter

on a side note dont buy paste in a jar it will oxidize and degrade affter 1 or 2 uses

how's mx-2 a no go ? mx-2 is one of the good TIMs out there. Zalman Tims temps are higher. Oh and shinetsu is kind of a mess after when you need to clean a cpu.
p.s.>
and the one to rule them all is Indigo Xtreme Thermal

indigo is not exactly the same kind of thing, the indigo is made to adhere the HS and cpu together and u have to immediately burn it in or it wont work

Yeah, I bought Arctic Silver 5 and now I'm regretting it. I always used to buy it but now I'm wishing I used mx-2 or something else. My temps are still too high for a TRUE with push/pull and idle core temps. I'm at 44-44-43-40 at idle @ 171x21 @ 1.232v in cpu-z. I cant seem to lower them at all even after reseating my TRUE and reapplying the thermal paste again.

2 of my friends used Indigo Xtreme on their PCs, and the both got lower temps than their previous TIMs... (One being the Noctua NT-H1, and the other MX-2 I think.) That stuff is intense if you're really looking for the lowest temps since it actually contains metallic compounds. Only thing is it isn't compatible with direct heat pipe contact type heatsinks... Poor me and my ol' Vendetta 2

yeah Indigo Xtreme is truly amazing stuff. Too bad ain't using Intel. MX-2 or Noctua NT-H1 are great. MX-3 is just not worth it for just 2 degs lower on load. Using Shin-etsu now.

how difficult is it to apply shin-etsu on cpu?
I hear it's pain to clean this stuff after.

I like the new MX-3, if not I use AS-5,a dn that takes something like 160 hours to settle fully, and the computer has to be shut off a few times to lower the temp of the grease to room temp.
