Tecumseh Question
Not sure if this is a screw or scroll how can I tell?
Tecumseh AKA5512EXA
http://www.tecumsehcoolproducts.com/...AK111AT-004-J7
What are the drawbacks if any from using a scroll as apposed to a screw? I plan on using two of these in a cascade I am starting soon.

Thought hermetic = it's in a hermetic container, not indicative at all what type of compressor it is, other than the type you replace not repair (hermetic means air tight seal, therefor a hermetic compressor is just a weld sealed compressor) and they are usually reciprocating type compressors....

Correct...
For example here is a spec sheet for a hermetically sealed rotary...
http://sysdoc.doors.ch/LG/QK141C.pdf
Im sure Ruffus meant reciprocating...

AJA5512XE
Critical data.... 5512 EXA
the first letters are family and config
second five, decimal places in BTU rating
12 is the first two numbers in the btu rating
so 12,000 BTU or one ton of refrigeration
This is an 1 hp hermetic compressor the last 2 digits is oil and voltage

Agreed. I'd say it isn't large enough to get into scroll territory, or at least the scrolls I've seen.

Thanks for the offer but 220v would be tough to sell when it goes in a cascade.
Any way I found a 13k btu for my first and a 12k btu for my second at a reasonable price so im set for the build im starting.

Put the larger compressor in the second stage and add a large air cooled condenser before the HX it will increase the effeciency

Thanks Chilly im glad you posted because i was thinking the larger compressor should go as the anchor.
I normally do the following:
Largest compressor->Large fan air cooled Condenser->Filter Drier->Reciever->sight glass (optional)->TXV->HX->Smaller compressor->floated oilsep->desuper condeser->filter drier->HX->ect...
But I will try the 13k as the second and the 12k as the first.
Its awesome to have you back posting!!!

It can go either way without hurting the oil sep...

Tecumseh question
http://www.tecumsehcoolproducts.com/...RK147AT-021-J7
Ok I bought this compressor and its now arrived and it looks a bit smaller than I expected.
I bought it for the first stage of a 2 stager thinking it was close to 12k BTU and around 16cc.
Well the spec sheet states its 11700 btu but then it gets weird:
Displacement 0.993
Is the displacement in Cubic Inches?

No need to make two threads about the same compressor, merged threads.
0.993 cubic inches is 16.27 cubic centimeters.
