Mod to make give 18W DDC 10W/18W switch?

I have heard from a friend that there is a mod to make my 18W switchable between 18W and 10W, I find my 18W too noisy sitting in my XSPC Duel res two so this mod would be appreciated.

Google the DDC solder mod. All you're doing is connecting two points with a blob of solder to make it an 18W unit. But you can just as easily attach wires to the two points, and put a switch in-between to choose whether you want it connected or not. As I understand it though, the switching only works when the pump is off - you can't do it on the fly.

Well I want to make my 18W do 10W as I find it too noisy and all the mods I have found was going 10W -> 18W

For 18W to 10W, just undo the blob of solder. If you wish to switch back and forth, that is when you'll need a switch.

I just have issues atm as my 18W wont start unless it gets like 10V and its annyoing having to remember to speed up your pump each time you turn on the pc after you slowed it down when it was running. So if I could put it in 10W mode and then if I want to OC or add more parts later then I can put it back to 18W if needed.

But I suppose the "blob" of solder is just there standard on the 18W then? (Havent opened mine yet)

Here's a nice tutorial showing how it's done.

You should know though that you cannot change the speed while it's running, you have to cut the power as well, as it will determine whether it's running as a 3.1 or 3.2 at startup and stick with it.

What about a rhoebus or fan controller?

I can drop both my 3.2s down to 60% (roughly 11W?) via software/Koolance TMS200. It's a convenient but expensive option.

I have a Rhebus (For some reason they only cost 10$ atm in Denmark ), but if I put it down to a nice volume output it wont start the next time I turn on the computer as it needs high startup voltage.

Anyone that can tell if its a noticeable difference in noise 10W compared to 18W? And if the 18W should be around the same noise level as Yate Loon Medium.
