Rotary comp base mount - MODABLE?

Just quick question too back up what im think or what i hope im think is the truth and facts.

The mount on the bottom of most rotarys is it just welded on? Not sure what type of weld i'd say MIG as it's big, lumpy and nasty.
If this was ground away would that mounting plate become free from the comp? On the 2 i have here it looks like there are 3 longish welds that hold it on via the underside.

I've taken 2 photos, sorry there not amazing as i used my iPhone which aint good but all i had to hand.

I can fit the come better in my case as currently the direction to which the mount is prevents the location i want.

I am fighting with both the suction acum and the base mount.

if it's a good weld, you would have to grind away a bit of the actual compressor housing as well before it would come loose.

oh wait, nvm, i see what they did there... yeah, you should be able to grind it off. might be easiest to take a dremel cut off disc, and cut around the outside of the welds and leave the bit of welded sections of the mount on the unit.

Yup, you could just grind/cut around the welds. Would be best if you want to proceed this way, I would leave the actual hermetic case alone so as to not damage its integrity.

It's just the welds i am thinking of grinding off. Even if i ground them down enough to where a tap with the hammer breaks the final little bit of weld and frees that mounting plate it's still a winner.
