lga 775 vs 1156 socket sizes

lately i've been kicking around the idea of switching to an i5/i7 system, and was wondering if my waterblock's 775 mounting system would fit on 1156?

thanks

You can buy a mother w/ 775/1156 mounting holes...

EVGA P55 SLI, P55 FTW SLI or P55 LE:

would the slant of the 775 mounting holes affect temps at all?

The orientation on a level surface shouldn't affect temps; I'm assuming the block is covering the cpu properly. I'm aiming to fit mine like that anyhow

EVGA P55 SLI, P55 FTW SLI or P55 LE:

I was reading that just yesterday on the eVGA forums...seemed a user had problems getting the TRUE to mount b/c of the metal blackplate that's already on the mobo though. Don't remember if he ended up getting a 1156 kit or just used another cooler.

Here's the direct link to the eVGA thread:

If you don't own an EVGA P55, you're going to need one...

Hole spacing:

Socket 775: 72mm x 72mm
Socket 1156: 75mm x 75mm
Socket 1366: 80mm x 80mm

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I was wondering if I were to mount an Apogee GT with an LGA 775 bracket on a 1156 motherboard.. what are some of the problems I would have?? its only a difference of 3mm, would I be able to mount it safely?

no, the bracket wouldnt fit. and the 775 backplate wouldnt be able to mount correctly because of the metal one already on the back of 1156 mobo's
