Need help using some old W/C parts on new system!

Hi guys,

Well after a long couple years out of the loop, no pun intended LOL, I decided to upgrade to the system in my sig. For now I am considering/debating on watercooling only the CPU or just sticking with good air cooling if the W/C parts I have aren't worth the trouble or waste of time.

Here are the parts I have lying around:
Dangerden Heatercore with shroud
Weapon Heatercore with shroud
Swiftech MCP600 pump
Swiftech MCP650 pump
Probably about 8-10 Sanyo Denki San Ace 120mm fans

Obviously my old waterblock won't work, so I picked up a
Swiftech Apogee GTZ. (only have a couple more days to return it if I decide to go with good air cooling.)

My case is the original CM Stacker.

I would like some comments/suggestions/opinions on what I should do.
Sell everything and start over? Use what I have for now? Just go with good air cooling?

Thanks in advance!!!
Ed

How big are the heatercores?

With your current parts list you could certainly build a good CPU loop with that. Except the San Ace need to go away... to me.

Oops, guess the size of the heatercores would help!!! They each hold (2) 120mm fans.
The Dangerden heatercore is 2" x 6" x 9.5"
The Weapon heatercore is 2" x 5.75" x 10.75"

Whats wrong with the San Ace's? Especially if they are undervolted. Any fans you would personally recommend that are quiet and provide good air flow?

Thanks,
Ed

Nothing... faster just wants yours

Anyway, it looks like you have a pretty good cache of parts there--should be great for a CPU loop

You could use either the MCP600 or the MCP650. The 650 won't perform as well and will be louder, but is a solidly built pump where as the 600 (rev1) had issues iirc. If you have a rev2 you should be good. The 650 is a D4 which is slightly better than a MCP655-B or Vario at setting 4. So both of your pumps are better than some commonly used ones. You could go with one of those rads and have decent temps with those fans+shrouds. Going with both might be slight overkill, but your temps should be great.

San Ace are great fans. I was just joking, hence the "go away to me".

I misread that too. Good luck with the build.

Yeah I definately misread that one!!!! Thought you meant "in your opinion"

How could I tell if my 600 was a rev1 or rev 2 (the serial # is S010002369 if that means anything)? I can't find a rev# anywhere on the pump.
Nevermind, its a rev2 (google is amazing ). Any serial # starting with an S is a rev2 FYI.

How would you guys set the loop up using the 600 and both heatercores? You said that using both heatercores might be overkill. How much do you think it would actually help? For a couple degrees C its probably not worth it.

Where would you put the rads? I could put them both right off the back of my case by making a custom bracket/spacer at work. Or I could put one at the bottom of the case and make a bracket for the second off the back of the case. I can fit the weapon heatercore and shroud in the front of my case but I lose all of my hard drive space. I really dont want to start cutting up my case.

Thanks,
Ed

I can't say exactly how much difference there would be, but for a CPU only loop certainly <5C probably closer to <3C depending on what speed you run the fans at.

I'm not sure where you would put them since idk what your space is like. Hanging them off the back is always a decent option.
