Possible bad news

Many of you probably have seen my worklog *liquid night* on here about a month or so ago. I'm still out of town and will be back in a couple of weeks from my 2 month trip. As you know the new video cards from amd are coming out very soon. The gtx275 I have now was just a temporary card until the new gen comes out. However seeing as to how long the 5870x2 is (11.8") I may have to scrap my project now. My 10.5" 275 barely fits as it is. Now the only option I have is to swap the hdd slot with the optical drive slot to gain maybe a 1.25". This is a bummer

Why not move thehard drive cage to the bottom of the case and turn it sideways and place it next to the rad? Or even place it down under the back case fan. You have plenty of room in there to move the HD cage to anther spot. I wouldn't scrap it due to the GPU size. You could also got to two HD5870's instead of the HD5870x2. Performance should be the same.

Dunno if there is enough space, but maybe go vertical and try:

??
Either this way or turn it 90 degrees clockwise :p
That wouldnt require alot of modding..

Why dont you scrap that huge harddrive mounting thing, and get http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=25357 . And you can just powdercoat them the same color as your case. Save you 2-3 inches

Or just scrap the optical drive, get an external USB optical drive for when you actually use disks. I had a similar, but slightly different problem (lack of drive bays after getting a T3 res), and i just bought a samsung external DVD burner. works great for when I actually need to use a CD/DVD

Totally agree with Diverge. I took out my optical drive also, cause first off.. it was making to much noise for me and secondly, i hardly use it. I have an external slim dvd burner and plug in when i need it. This will clear some space.

+1 If it is only 1 card, either x16 slot will work. You could just move it into the other slot.

These are all pretty good ideas. I didn't even think about an aftermarket hdd slot. Oh and as for the weird mounting positions, I don't want to do that because of the powder coating (very thin coat). However I'm actually thinking of getting it repowder coated. Alot of battle scars on the case trying to install hardware.

I'm still out of town right now. i should be back in the next couple of weeks. I'm trying to get this rig done, but work gets in the way sometimes. Make sure you guys look out for pics of the rig when its finished. Will try getting overclocking results in as well.
