E6850 "G0" on EVGA 680i AR
Got my new ES E6850 "G0" in today and decided to clean out the radiator at the same time. I also found that EVGA had released a new P29 bios designed specifically for these new chips, so I flashed that as well. I have only been in windows for around ~30mins, so I don't have any testing done. But here's a nice stock cpu-z/core temp shot. Overclocking results to arrive shortly...I promise.
Look at that idle temp...
Specs are the following:
CPU: E6850 (ES) G0 @ stock (1.3v set in bios)
Mobo: EVGA 680i rev. AR w/ P29 bios
RAM: Corsair 2x1GB PC2-10000C5 @ 3-3-3-6-1T 2.1v
VGA: BFG 7950GT
PSU: OCZ Powerstream 600w
Cooling: Water.
(EDIT: Check posts #55 for 4GHz prime, and #68 for 4.27GHz max!)

Not so impressive considering some E6600's can reach 3.6ghz with 1.35V or less, and that's a jump from 2.4ghz = 1.2ghz overclock
With the E6850 @ 3.0ghz, that's only a 600mhz overclock with about the same voltage!

Good point.
Almost everyone of us already has a C2D B2 stepping. The reason that makes us attracted to the new G0 stepping C2D or C2Q is not really the native 1333FSB but it's actually the lower voltage requirment from the chip clock for lock. I'd really love to see more and more solid OC results on G0 C2D/C2Q that runs cooler with lower volts clock for clock = higher OC-ability.

I was noting the same thing from another guy here with a 6850. Everyone drooling over the 4+ghz. Unfortunately it took almost 1.6v+ to get there. Thus far i'm not too impressed with the infamous 'G0' stepping. I like many other people here expected higher clocks on stock volts.

How did you get a 6850 when you live in the US? Do you have friends in Europe to ship to you?

i know these run cooler but i've also noticed with newer CPUs some of the temp probes must be faulty as they are idling at the same or less temps than ambient
so please report your ambient there and exact cooling setup

4GHz is certainly possible...but for how long?
Here's me just into windows. Since then I quickly ran pi 1m and now I think I am going to load up prime and call it a night. To be very honest, I don't see it being stable at this voltage for prime (1.55v). I should also mention that the temperatures at this speed and voltage are much more normal now (50c load), but still way cooler than my old Allendale, and it was lapped!
I'll update tomorrow with the best results I can get at 4GHz and beyond (if the board and chip will continue to cooperate.
Oh, and for those who are wondering whether or not the results from this chip will represent retail, I have no idea, in my experience ES's usually don't, but there are always exceptions. All I know is, I'm having fun.

I'm sorry but what kind of water cooling is this? Are you using a TEC?
Also what are your ambient temps for those?
Unless you're using a TEC I REALLY doubt those temps are real. No offense to you or anything as I really do appreciate your posting. I'm just really skeptical about whether core temp is reporting accurate temps.

ES can be found from many people, you just have to know who they are and be in their trust.
As for the ocing, the board is giving me some stability problems right now, I'm gonna try a few more things. Prime was a big no no at 4ghz with that voltage with a hard reset. We'll see what I have to do to get it stable.

The watercooling is a AquaXtreme MP05-LE cpu block, a Swiftech MCW60 gpu block, a Laing D5 pump, and a Black Ice Pro 3 radiator with Yate Loons.

yeah what percentage of all c2d can do that? We have plenty of overclockers here in Aus and I bet we dont even have one here that can do that...

Your right. US Sprite and Coke probably contains twice the sugar and therefore tastes better. Fine with me, look at the obesity in the States .
You should concentrate on where it counts. US beer sucks compared to Canadian beer. +10 for Canada.
BTW how did you manage to start talking about Sprite and Coke in a thread about a processor?

Wow man you've got some really nice temps on that chip. Good luck getting 4GHZ stable.
