Tool to play lan games thru internet.
Many of you guys have probably heard of this before but I thought I'd let people know if they're interested and never heard of it.
There's this program called Hamachi that sets up a network over the internet which allows you to play games over the internet as if you were on LAN. Its free and you can even do stuff like file sharing since it was not designed only for games.
Here's the link:
https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp

i use this to play cnc with my friends all the time (who don't own legit copies....)
it works great, but sometimes it hangs up if you don't spam the lobby with messages.

hamachi is a great prog !
i'm using it since 2k6 and never had real problems. Ping is also very good, try Counterstrike and you will see that you ping maybe 2-10ms more than on a dedicated server (depends on player number and distance)

True that. The ping for me is slightly higher than what I see on true servers.

Ok, who is really good with this prpogram?
Im trying to play the very first quake with a buddy. It worked when he was hooked up to my router. But now that he has gone home, we are unable to play.
He is able to see all my shared folders, as I am able to see his.
Is it because im behind a router?

Those types of programs like Himatchi open your UDP port and leave you vulnerable to viruses right?

well it creates a VPN for the clients of the hamachi network; its possible for others to attack you through the VPN, but the VPN contains the people you know.

er if you think about it that way then any open port leaves you vulnerable to viruses. Which means you should probably never use a browser ever again or any other program for the matter.

So this thing can do remote desktop control as well...not bad...
Has anyone used this feature and can comment on it? I'm looking for a good program like that to maintain my family's computer from my house.
