Unable able to sign on to Live Messenger (Error Code: 80048820)
As the title says, for seemingly no reason at all, I am now unable to sign in to Windows Live Messenger. I haven't changed anything, but now it pops up with this message with the following:
I don't what why it's happening, but it started occurring about a week ago and it's got me puzzled. I need Live Messenger for many important contacts, so I can't just stop using. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with the latest version, including the latest beta, several times and cleaned my system out with CCleaner in between and still nothing.
Any help?

I had the same problem on my laptop at home. I've uninstalled messenger and rebooted and it didn't help. There are 7 pc's at home with messenger on them. I found on another forum that it could be my router, it's uPnP capabilites may have used up all the available ports for messenger. Messenger would only open without errors if I was to unplug my ehternet cable from my laptop. Anyways to make a long story short, I reset my router(not factory default reset, just a reboot), released my laptop's ip lease and renewed it and it worked. Maybe you could give this a try, Good Luck.

Thanks. I'm actually not even on a router at the moment though. And I actually just released and renewed my IP earlier today to no avail.

Windows Live Messenger is junk like Norton exactly. When you uninstalled it completely, the files are still floating around on your hard disk.

Haha....don't laugh, but my date was somehow set at August 30th, rather than June. Yea, I'm dumb.
Thanks guys.

try this, fixed some of my msn woes:
make a txt file, enter this
regsvr32 Dssenh.dll /s
regsvr32 Gpkcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 Slbcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 Sccbase.dll /s
regsvr32 Softpub.dll /s
regsvr32 Wintrust.dll /s
regsvr32 Initpki.dll /s
regsvr32 Rsaenh.dll /s
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll /s
regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dll /s
regsvr32 Msxml3.dll /s
then save, rename it to a .bat extension, then execute with messenger closed. then startup again. it reregisters some broken dlls.
