Apogee GT mounting v BX2

So it seems that you cannot mount the Apogee GT vertically (with one barb beneath the other) because of the blue ramsinks that get in the way.

The only solution would be either to remove the ramsinks or rotate the block so the barbs are on the left/right of eachother.

Is there any noticeable decrease in performance, rotating the block?

Thanks.

EDIT: Cancel that, I can't seem to get the apogee GT to go on at all, vertically or horizontally without it touching the blue heatsinks.

Anybody else have this problem? What did you do to remedy it?

EDIT 2: Jumped the gun a bit. It fits horizontally... only barely. The mounting bracket is pushing quite hard against one of the ramsinks, but it does fit, and that is comforting.

It's the mosfet heatsinks. One of my boards mounted fine vertically, but the other two needed a little Dremmel action with a sanding drum.

I've got it mounted fine horizontally now. The Apogee didn't want to go vertically and I don't have my dremel with me.

Does anybody know if horizontally mounting the block suffers a performance decrease?

Incorrect orientation of the waterblock will result in a 2-3C gain. I lost 2C when I corrected my mount. You want the Swiftech logo to be upright (as in readable) instead of sideways.

Drat. Oh well, I don't have the tools to sand down the mofset sinks with me, and I am too impatient to wait until tomorrow. I will see how this mount goes.

2 degrees can be gained simply by having a better mount. I've gained as much as 5 degrees before simply remounting my block.

I presume you only swapped the orientations once and therefore, your temp decrease could very well be a product of better mount / thermal paste distribution.

Are there any HARD results out there showing this?

That's quite true. Gabe provided his input on another topic that the correct orientation for the GT would result in a 2-3C temp drop.
