I just want to be sure that the parts are really OK
so you are in the process of saving money for a new VGA so just get the E4300 and upgrade later ,, that CPU is pretty cheap and wont lose much of it is value
I'm not saving money for the videocard I'm not even sure if I'll get one. I don't play games that much and the games I play are mainly car games (GTR2, NFS-, CMR series...) and old rpg games (BG2, IWD...). When I get my next paycheck I (->next month) maybe I'll buy a cheap DX10 videocard.

eh. I'd say skip the graphics card and wait till you've got a couple more bucks. That or just go get a 6800 series or a 7600GT or something and use that as a hold-over

Well I've managed with this Mobility R9000 all this time cos I have no desktop computer. So I believe the X1050 will serve me well until I have the money to buy a better videocard

So the price is pretty much the same with those two but is there a big difference in how much they overclock? The reviews I have read tells me that both can do over 1000MHz with 5-5-5-15 timings and 2.3vdimm or so.

Can't bother to wait for the price drop plus I don't need a quad core cpu.
see, this is where you will end up shooting yourself in the foot. You can't wait, you must have it now. If you've managed for so long with your lappy, another month wont kill you. You say you don't need quad core NOW, and you said you are upgrading video obviously to play games. Games today are becoming more and more multi threaded.
It seems to me if you could restrain yourself for a month, you could build a system that will last you quite some time and have enough cores to run the newest games with gusto. Ive done exactly what you are doing so many times with my builds, build just a bit too soon.
Just consider others advice before acting so hastily.

Why not? They can be had for the same price as the 965S.
Also, buy a 79xx card if you have to save money, and buy it from EVGA. That way you can upgrade to a 640GTS without paying the entire full price again, just the difference

HZ= D9GMH and those are the best over CLocking ICs out there
Grab the DFI Dark at most or the DS3, get the E4300 and get a decent vid card.
Games aren't the only reason why ppl get better vid cards, members at xs of all ppl should know that.
A 4ghz quad kents doesn't compare to what the HD video tech in Nvidia and ATI's new cards can do when viewing, encoding or decoding movies.
Perkam
Support for Penryn and P35 mobos overclock better. If I don't play games much why should get a expensive videocard? I'm not going to buy one for 3Dmark benches or something equally useless.
