Partitioning HDD - Slower Performance?

I currently run 2 partitions. Windows installed on C, games installed on D.

Would it benefit my gaming performance if they were installed on the same partition as windows? I think I might have read somewhere that performance is slowed when using a partition that windows isn't installed on.

XP PRO SP2, btw.

Thanks

Performance decades when windows is accessing both partitions at the same time. If you can get another drive (and its not ide on the same channel) to put the games onto it'll be better.

Ahh, I see. So, assuming this, I could assume that putting games onto C drive will ensure that the HDD doesn't need to access both partitions?

Yes, but on the other hand keeping C: as small as posible also helps boosting the performance.

Depends. on where is your swap, if indexing service is enabled on the second partition, if other programs running are reading/writing there.

In general is better to have a separate DRIVE (of the same interface) for swap and temporary.
