Extreme 120 vs.Tuniq vs.Ninja (56k warning)
Just got my Extreme 120 yesterday and decided to do a quick comparison with the Tuniq and Ninja that I also have. Nothing special, just installed them with AS5, and did a quick 30 min orthos small fft's. I have found that this heats things up pretty good. All tests were done with the side panel on, with an Antec 900. Load temps were taken after 30 min of orthos. Idle temps were taken within 5 min of stopping orthos. I'm posting full screen shots so the time in the tray is shown.
The set-up:
E6600 9x400 1.465 bios (about 1.4 or so with droop at load)
Asus P5B Deluxe 804 bios
Antec 900 case
Antec 79cfm 2000 rpm fan (This fan is a good noise/air movement compromise.)
Ambient room temp 21c
Case temp 25c
First up: Scythe Ninja
Idle:
Load:
Next: Tuniq 120
Idle:
Load:
Finally: Ultra Extreme 120
Idle:
(I accidentally closed orthos after the load shot, but you can see the time in the tray is just after the load shot.)
Load:
Some pics of the set-up:
I suck at taking pics, and my camera is old, so they aren't great.
Looks like I forgot to take a side closed pic with the Tuniq.
As you can see, and just as everyone else has stated, the Ultra Extreme 120 kicks ass. With this quick test, the Tuniq 120 is only slightly behind. I think that they would be just about the same for 24/7. The Ninja is still a fine cooler, but I don't think it can keep up with the top ones any more. I think temps would also drop a degree or so after the AS5 sets. I would like to test with a quad core, but I'm not going to get one until after the third quarter price drops. That was the real reason for getting the Extreme 120.
I used small fft's, (as for me anyway,) this gives maximum temps. I have been running WCG with the Extreme 120 since yesterday, and my load temps are 47-48.
Also just some thoughts about the temps I've seen reported by others. I just find it hard to believe when I see load temps only 10 degrees above idle. Even when I was running water with my xp-m, (back in the old days ) load temps would be 15-20 degrees above idle.

Your ambient seems to be very high m8.
As the ambient goes up your idle will go up. and if you dont have good airflow you wont get the 10C difference that many here are getting with U120 extremes. You are idling over 40.
I am yet to see mine even touch 55C under full load condition but i do have 93 cfm fan on it . But my case is well ventilated with 3x120mm and 2x 92mm.

Thank you very much. I've been waiting for a Tuniq vs 120 extreme review.
I now know that i should buy a tuniq. The diffrence in the netherlands is 20 euro and that's only for 2 degrees. That's too much for me.

Where do you see idle over 40 Idle is in the low 30's. My airflow is good. My case temp is only a few degrees over ambient room temp. I think everyone has a different idea of what load is

But i dont get that much delta here. THis is only at 3.37Ghz but still
My CPU is lapped though. Dont know about yours.
difference in load temp is nowhere near to as large as yours.
oops posted wrong pic. will post again, forgot to take screenie before stopping orthos.

Very nice comparo.. I ordered the U-120 to replace a big typhoon on my Q6600.. I hope to see some nice temps on this new cooler My load temps right now are at about 65c at 1.38v..

Ok here is the recent run.
First Ran the orthos. Took the load temp. then stopped it and took temp again after 5 mins for idle.
IDLE

Load
There is nothing exceptional i have done here. Just lapped the cpu IHS. And cooler is in stock condition with TT blue LED fan on it.

Still I think Ultra Extreme 120 is rather expensive compared to Tuniq Tower 120 which already includes a fan as well. But performance wise Extreme 120 impresses me of course but not from a cost point of view. I would still rather choose a Tuniq Tower 120 today. Thx for the comparision.

Guys, don't look at the asus suite. The temps jump all over the place with it. I was only using that to show voltage an frequency.
Funky, nice! Maybe I should match your clock and see what temps I get. I have checked the ihs, it's pretty flat. I have a 6400 and 6300 that I've lapped, those were way bad. I dropped 10 degrees on the 6400. Also, I should have stated that my e6600 is a 28B chip. They tend to run hotter.

The Thermalright Extreme 120 is definitely the king of air cooler as of today. Sooner or later I'll get me the Xtreme 120 because it's smaller, lighter, and sexier

Funky, which Vcore of yours is correct, Everest or CPU-Z? Are you running the same Vcore as OP?
Edit: I noticed they both fluctuate, have you measure actual vcore under load with a DMM? If the CPU-Z one is closer to true, then that is your temperature difference right there.

My CPU is voltage lover
The CPU-Z is incorrect.
The Everest voltage is the correct voltage.
Its 1.44v in reality.

Why is it not a good review? They probably used a weak dual 120mm, mine has a 79 cfm fan!

All this hoopla over 2C?
Still nobody has shown a head to head between the Ultra-120 X and TT120 with a high Vcore, high MHz Kentsfield. So the jury is still out as far as I am concerned.
