God thats allot of copper.
Well I guess we'll have to wait till launch to figure out what the none OEM cooling will be like, can't believe the partners are going to want to deal with this setup for long.

thats basically the same as the 7900GTX heatsink, but all copper, with a slightly different placement of the fan.
the 7900GTX's heatsinks was definatly one of the best stock coolers I ever seen.
now being all copper, it should be great for this card.
assuming the placement of the fan doesnt actually hinder its performance.
but if thats what happens, just take the top shell off, and zip tie a few 80mm fans to it, and it would basically solve any cooling problems it might have with weird fan placement on the end of the card.
but honestly, it looks like a real solid heatsink, after my experiences with the 7900GTX.

I think ATI put a lot of thought into this, I have been impressed by their stock coolers for the 1900 and 1950 XTX. I was getting better temps with stock/lapped/as5 heat sink then any after market I tried.

Look at the size of the heatpipes, it's ridiculous but this is necessary to do remove 200W+.

200W+ is the number we're looking at.

I am sure the reason for the fan placement, is to get that heat, out of the case, wouldn't want all that heat making your cpu boil, along with other components.
I sure hope the retail cooler doesn't throw heat into the case.

to me the x1900xtx coolers sucked ass. The temps were hot as hell while the fan is spinning out of control.

Well the X1950XTX cooler was a great improvement, and a derivative is what I'm betting the top end retail R600s will end up with... Well something that doesn't have the fan hanging over the edge of the card and adding 4-inches to its length. No doubts the R600 cooler we're seeing right now is really effective, Just can't believe that yields won't get better to the point they can use something smaller.

Holy Copper Batman.
Jebus, you will need an extra bracket just to hold the card in the slot. I know one thing, if that won't keep the card cool, nothing will!

dewd your company makes some nice ram
200w is outrageous and a hot chip for a 5lb cooler is insane. 65nm parts for the xtx would be alot better. I do like the clocks on these and I am hoping we get some faster ones on a node shrink with some scaling.
I am looking forward to 2ghz clocks on gfx .45nm nice and cool low powered sweetness. I am waiting for benches and prices before i trade out my 1900gt.

If I got one of the damn things I'd slap a hydrothermal generator and some thermocouples on it and sell some power to California!

That's what I thought, I had the GPU at ~80ºC under full load.
Get Rivatuner and set the fan to about 70%, you'll have 65ºC full.
Under 60ºC full at 100% but it's LOUD!!!
