Philly's Cold Air Induction

I came up with an idea a few weeks back that I implemented last week with great results. I have a way to induct cold outside air via a 4" duct leading to a box behind my intake fans for my PA120.3. I was getting water temps that were 1c-1.5c above ambient at idle and 2c-3c above ambient when loaded (TAT for 1 hour). I am now getting water temps that average 5-6c below ambient (loaded) with air temps in "the box" averaging 20c below room ambient.

My CPU boot up idle temps are 21-22c. Loaded temps recorded by TAT are 39-40c. My GPU idle temps are 19c (single card) and 22c (SLi). GPU loaded is 23c-24c.

Plate in window weather sealed so the room stays toasty.

The duct leads behind and under my computer table.

It ends up in the "Cold Air Induction Box".

Lets watch the temps drop.

The smaller temp is the room ambient. 21c below room ambient - not too bad!

nice CAI

hmm gives me an idea to do a bong setup out my window. Could even be completely sealed since the heat would escape to -12'c weather. Just would have to hope it doesn't freeze

I have always wanted to do this myself but never went through with it. I thought about putting the rad outside too but the amount of dust would clog it up pretty fast. And living out here, it's like sunshine almost year round so kinda not worth it. Nice to see it's working great for you tho Philly_Boy..

Why not just pump ice water through your loop?

Thanks, Brian. Yeah...all you Cali boys got is maybe rigging this up to a central AC duct to get a similar result. I will rig that once the weather gets warmer. Our central AC manages to pump out like 18c-19c colder than outside ambient in the dead of summer. I have an idea to work the box to my rig with magnets once everything gets stuffed inside the new U2-UFO Horizon case.

You can get pumps that are designed to push ice, or at least do so very well.

The kind of pump you'd use with a chiller...

Chillers don't pump ice. If its a below 0C chiller then the coolant is not water, or not pure water anyway, so there is no ice.

@Philly

Nice work. If I stilled lived in Russia this would be a nice way to make a chiller lol. So I am guessing this is a winter benching setup or is it that cold all year round where you live?
