OCZ Technology Announces the New 1000W ProXStream Power Supply
OCZ Technology Announces the New ProXStream, a Server-Class 1000W Power Supply for Enthusiasts and High-End System Builders
Sunnyvale, CA—January 15, 2007—OCZ Technology Group, a worldwide leader in innovative, ultra-high performance and high reliability memory and power supplies, today announced the launch of the ProXStream power supply series, a new high performance PSU that was first showcased at the recent 2007 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. OCZ engineered the ProXStream to provide ample power to even the most demanding high-end systems. Incorporated in a small and diverse form factor, the ProXStream 1000W core is extremely efficient and very practical, as it can be integrated into just about any chassis.
A first-rate power supply is immensely important to ensure your system runs both effectively and efficiently. The OCZ ProXStream comes complete with quad PCI-Express connectors and sufficient power to operate high performance graphics cards with plenty of power left over to handle the remaining high end components found in today’s most demanding PCs. OCZ continues to push the envelope in controlling ripple noise and producing the cleanest power for high-end systems.
“The ProXStream pioneers OCZ’s new line of ultra-compact extreme power supplies,” commented Dr. Michael Schuette, VP of Technology Development at OCZ Technology. “At 1KW power with 70A distributed over four independent 12Vrails, the OCZ1000 PXS is an uncompromising, performance PSU with a plethora of connectors to deliver the power to every component in the system. The small form factor still allows fitting this powerhouse into even mid-size cases.”

i dont get it
and ill reserve judgement till we see some reviews, or at least see some internals.
and dont put too much wieght into the 4 rails thing. not many psu's have actually had true split 12v rails.

For such a high end PSU it is surprisingly plain, which is not OCZ style. Kind of funny that they removed the power switch. Most likely to save space I imagine.
I am also curious.. is it 4 REAL rails or 1 big rail with 4 shunts.

Maxxx, I'd rather have a PSU that performs well that look plain than a flashy paperweight. Jonhyguru seems to get a bunch of OCZ psu's, so hopefully this will be no exception.

Oh, I completely agree with you modd. I wasn't putting OCZ down for not going the bling bling route, just rather surprised.
Personally I like everything in a nice dull matte black, and this PSU is pretty close to that. its nice to see the LED's on the rear fan gone too..

I don´t have anything to say about ocz , simply the best rma service period in my experience.
I killed 3 powerstreams and a gamextreme, now they have sent me a gamextreme 850W, till now no problem.
No one other company had done that .

Couldn't u go with the 120mm fan way? 80mm psu fans can't be quiet...

80mm's were most likely selected because that is what the OEM used. The OEM probably used them because the components are rather high and they found it easier to stick to 80mm's. (just a guess)

Releasing a 1000W psu right now and considering the fact that it's still a hw maniac's choice, it 's rather awkward decision...

I thought it was Forton or Seasonic or something..? Nice to see a strong PSU in a small case. I don't care what it looks like really, as long as it is black and has a honeycomb grill, I'm happy. What really is important is efficiency, loudness, and stability. I look forward to see what this PSU has to offer. I haven't been impressed with all of OCZ's lineup.

Is it perhaps better to run dual 500W PSU's vs. a single 1000W PSU? I realize running dual 500W PSU's means a bit of modding to tap the second PSU into the power switch and ground plane (you would have to splice a couple of wires together from the respective 24 pin ATX connectors). It also depends on whether your case has room.
However, then you would get true dual rails. You could run your motherboard and CPU from one PSU and your graphics cards off the second.
Thoughts?

I agree, I would have like a powdercoated black finish as well. There is nothing wrong with having a little bling if the performance holds true.

After looking at their page I see a Topower.
So...
Single 80mm fan.
The specs don't include a rail-to-cable map.
The specs don't include the temperature at which the wattage is valid.
No cross-loading charts.
It seems (wording not clear) that they got rid of these stupid 4+4 connectors and went separate 4 and 8. Good.
The "Powerswap" warranty system sounds nice.

the powerswap warranty is a god send. When my 520watt blew I was back up and running within 3 days. That is from time of failure to time of new installation.
