looks interesting... But the real question is its durability. You're average cell phone/PDA can take quite a beating whereas the iPods have not been so durably designed.
The second question that comes to mind is the battery. Will it be user changable like EVERY other cell phone and PDA on the market or will they stick to their retarded design of non-user accesible batteries. (yes i know u can pry open ur ipod and repalce the battery but thats not for the faint of heart)

Well, I'm surprised...
I was thinking that Apple would make this phones look like
Ipods, which would have been r3t@rd3d...
However, they actually seem to have put much thought into
it. Only competition to this phone, that has been released
is the Samsung F500, and that thing has less than a gig of
internal memory...
Well, only thing that worries me is that the phone itself is like
90% touch screen. One drop and you are scrwed...

I really like this allot, I always wanted something like this but I just couldn't find it. This is the best All-in-one phone I have ever seen, video, mp3, internet, and ofcourse a phone. They only have to increase the storage space, cuz 8GB just won't cut if for all the data it has to store and ofcourse the price has to come down alot. I just wish they would release them sooner and the competition has to be there, otherwise the price will never go down.

Point is, EDGE is slow, EVDO is faster. Both are WWAN. Wifi isn't, at all.

Mobile OS-X could be a huge success or a huge failure in the mobile market. Depends on how it actually performs, support, and portability.
Any info on Outlook/Notes email & calendar sync'ing with iLife? Never seen any hard data for it, just advertisements. I guess wireless sync clients wont be known until providers actually support the phone.
Google maps is fine and dandy but TomTom w/ GPS is sort of the big thing w/ PDA's currently.
Only a soft keyboard is the biggest con I see.
Has a CDMA version been announced at all? I'm sure Apple is smart enough to have it in the works already...
I hope this gets very popular. Like iPod popular. The Smartphone,PPC,PDA market is lacking competition in terms of hardware and OS. Currently there is Rim,Palm, And WM5. All suck at something. Hardware wise everything uses the Intel PXA270 proc except RIM's stuff...
If Apple comes out with hardware and an OS that outshines everything, even at a ridiculous price, I see the mob's demand for such a device being more than the supply. Heck just on looks I bet that could happen with Apple's iPod reputation.

I agree. This product has all the characteristics to be another massive success for Apple and the release was well timed. AAPL surged +8% today. Thank you Steve.

Nope....ditch EDGE/GSM, give me EVDO/CDMA. 8GB for $600 is fine by me if the product works.

Absolutely great. GSM is the way to go, and the seamless integration with the desktop is awesome. People need to understand that this gadget is not for everybody. It's targeted to the "everyday a bit of everything non geek user" who does not want a techno belt.
As a stock holder I think it's awesome, as a phone corporate power user, I will wait until it gives me the following:
- sync with MS Exchange (calendar, mail and contacts)
- talk time of 8 hours
- run Skype
- I can unlock it to use in Europe or any other carrier.
Willing to pay 1k if it provides all this.

During the Keynote, Steve calls a Starbucks in SF (directly from Google Maps), and orders 4000 lattes to go
Coming June I may well be cancelling my Verizon contract....guess I'll suffer with the slow speeds of EDGE, but at least I'd be suffering with an iPhone.
