Help volt mod

I am performing a volt mod based off of the cable guys guide and have a few questions:

I am performing my mod tonight and have a couple of questions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MCH mod questions:
1) If I start by turning all the way clockwise can I simply cut the #1 wiper so that I am left with #3 and #2?

2) Do I leave the POT turned all the way clockwise when I boot the system? Or do I turn it down ½ way or so?

3) I am on Phase (Chilly Stage 1 not auto cascade) and I can’t seem to OC higher than 4.22 GHz with the e6700. Will this mod make a difference?

4) The only solid core wire I could find at home depot was 14 gage this is going to be stiff. Can I use braded wire of a higher gage or should it be solid core?

I hope these are not completely stupid questions but I have never done this before and don’t want to ruin my 280.00 board by mistake.
