International Shipping + tropical climate
I have to ask, would it not be prudent to request a pre-made unit from one of the skilled builders here on XS, and have it shipped to Hong Kong?
I've heard that international shipping does hell for a SS unit, and we all know how rough the post people can be.
Also, here in Hong Kong, the room routinely heats up to about 30-35 degrees celcius. Would it severely hamper the SS unit's performance? When the AC is on, cools down to about 24 which is a nice temperature.
Thanks in advance.

I think that you won`t have problems with shipping to Hong Kong, someone here at XS made unit for someone from vietnam I think, there wasn`t any problems.

I see. That is good to hear.
The temperature here isn't that bad if you use the airconditioner, but if not, it gets pretty hot and it's always humid. But if someone can use a unit in Vietnam, the climate is very similar to Hong Kong's.

So I take it the shipping went alright.
I am just worried that if some post worker having a bad day decides to chuck my parcel, that the unit breaks and I have to ship it all the way back for repair.
That would be an incredibly hassle.
I am looking forward to diving into the world of phase change (been a bit of a water-whore for a while) and do not have the money to invest in the proper and correct tools in order to make one, nor do I have the "know-how" with the tools. Only thing I can use is a drill, saw (mechanical or not) and dremel... heh.
Any other thoughts / opinions?

The humidity is very high in tropical climates. You will need to insulate the living daylights out of the system in order to prevent condensation.

That certainly is an issue, one I've been wondering about for a while.
Aside from insulation, are there many methods of preventing condensation?

Yes, get a unit and specificy that you want to use a vapochill enclosure system, or the one from cooler master, you will need all the help you can get, and this two enclosure systems has electric heaters included (Vapochill one is better IMO).

Vapochill enclosure system? No hits off google image search. Can anybody elaborate?
Humidity is often up in the 90's here.

Simply make sure you keep that AC running and the humidity shouldn't be a issue. I lived in Indonesia for quite some years and did never work the box without the AC on.

That's not possible. I don't have the money for the electricity bill to keep the ac on all day.
I could run a dehumidifier.
Is this a CPU enclosure?

would be it.
The only thing builder has to do is test the unit under 35c ambient to simulate what you have (oh lord.. it isn't fun in builders end... it's quite hot).
Most custom unit will consume 180w idle to 240w fully loaded. It isn't too little but it isn't too much either

Just use a slightely bigger condencer for the unit. If you use an open loop water system through an old fridge evap you can use the cold main water to dehumidify the place. I've don that here a fiew times
