reformatting with overclock?

when you reformat an overclocked computer, does it put your computer back to stock? If not, should you put it back to stock?

I really don't want to spoil my overclock when vista comes out. I'm guessing you wouldn't have to put settings back to stock because the cpu is hardware and is kept stable using voltage and not software, but i guess i could be wrong

depends... did you overclock it thru the bios? if yes then your good. if you overclocked thru softwhere then ur out of luck. have u made sure if ur 100% stable? if so then ur good. what OS are u planning to reinstall with? if your currently using xp and are going to reinstall xp then u'll be fine. if your going from xp to xp x64 or vista beta then you may have to lower your overclock.

I did all my overclocking through the bios passed prime95 24+ on each core with small fft's, super_pi 32mb stable, and runs all games stable, and 3d apps stable. And i would be installing the final version of vista, so really this is just a future reference type question.

well when vista does come out, just install it normally, once in vista i would run prime again just to check how things are going, but most likely you will have to lower your overclock once vista is installed b/c prime will fail. installing vista should be fine tho since uve primed for over 24hrs with no errors.

I see you're using a DFI SLI-DR board. If you're worried about installing an operating system with an overclock (because really, even if your system seems stable, is it worth having to reformat because two bits in some random system file were corrupted as a result during install?) then I'd suggest using the CMOS Reloaded feature. Simply save your current BIOS settings into one of the available saved setting areas, then return your BIOS to default configurations. Once you've installed, simply load your BIOS from your saved file and voila: you're back to where you were.

Yeah i did notice that you can save settings in the bios. So i would just save it in the bios and load defaults when overclocking. I think thats what you mean, correct? If so thats great
