Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Okay, got to see a midnight showing of this....and it was a good movie. Not great, not bad, just good. It was less funny than the first (same jokes over and over it felt like) and felt longer. The plot twists are better, but some character development is too swift and lacking.

The ending was bunk, BUT I'll consider it 'good' as it does set up for a confirmed (and filmed IIRC) sequel. Overall, the movie was good...cool special effects and SWEET costumes; even a few seemingly directly ported from Star Wars (the Cracken and Davey Jones looked just like Star Wars monsters/characters).

I recommend it...especially since the sequel is coming fairly soon. It's no doubt an entertaining movie, with lots of glitz, and pretty good acting from Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom (Keira was so-so at best...life's easy when you look as good as her I guess ). It does have some loose strings that need to be tied up in the sequel, and definitely would not be the same movie without a confirmed sequel. It also has some stale jokes, and reuses some within the movie, and a fairly weak plot (but great twists, that sometimes need explaining unfortunately [no worries, every twist DOES have an explanation in dialogue in the movie]).

I give it a B-

Pros:
Costumes
Good jokes
Entertaining
Great for the kids and adults
Good plot twists

Cons:
FEELS like a long movie (and it is)
Some stale jokes, and some reused jokes
Weak performance from Keira
Needs a sequel to be 'good'
Some characters leave you puzzled as to who they were and how they got there....

Yes, I was tired but it was the talk of the theater as we were leaving.....it is long and it feels long.

And I agree with FCG with another con: assclown HSers making noise. Fortunately, the theater I went to had 2 showings: 1 for regular people like myself and everyone who came with (and about 250 other people, only a few of which were hooligans), and 1 for the 250 people that came dressed as pirates

Oh yeah, Depp rocked the house

Depp's performance is the only reason I would see it, but he can only do so much. The rest of the movie just looks like the average Disney piece of crap. The theaters are probably full of girls who smell like playdo and guys who haven't discovered themselves.

I liked the movie. A little long, kinda convoluted plotline and an abrupt ending, but i suppose that's to be expected with the anticipated sequel, those producers see big $$ signs.
Good action though, very entertaining. The high school kids weren't so bad... i knew a lot of them

WARNING WARNING POTENTIAL SPOILER IN THIS POST!!!!

if you haven't seen the movie stop reading this thread

first one kicks this one's ass, but it still had some great moments. most of the comedy was a rehash of the first (indeed, most if the movie was a number of parallels to the first). sequel has already been confirmed and filming resumes at the end of summer. look forward to pirates of the carribean: at world's end (2007) for the finisher
did have some fresh comedy like with the cannibals, and it was great to revisit tortuga, but the sinking of the pearl PISSES ME OFF . that ship had damn well better come back with jacko in world's end...

and where was anamaria?

yea, guess you're right, ill live though

i dont mind knowing what will happen in a movie, that doesn't bother me that much

what would bother me, would be having someone sit next to me in the movie and tell me "hey 'this' is about to happen" the entire way though

i know the black pearl will be gone sometime in the movie now, just dont know when

Good movie overall, but too much of a build up for the third/next one. Awesome ending btw,

The movie was alright until the ending. If I had a little more faith that the ending was the way it was BECAUSE the writers had such a good story they COULDN'T cram it all into one movie I'd be fine with it... but instead I mostly feel that it was a producers decision (because that movie could have been successfully concluded a number of times before the end just fine with a small change here or there) because they're a bunch of rich %$%*#$@ who want to milk this franchise for all its worse.

In summary:
Unless they release the sequel in the next month, I demand precisely 1/3 of my money back because as far as I'm concerned a movie has three critical parts: a beginning, a middle, and an end. I'll pay for the first two parts, but that 'ending' was nothing more than a preview/teaser for their next film.

The plots twists were really really good. And I swear commodore, jack, and will are all idiots... Enjoyable. Long but I didn't really want it to end either :-(.

I just saw the movie this evening. The movie (at least to me) felt insanely long...the last half hour I was even thinking of leaving. The plot progression was lazy at best with filler galore...what was with that lame water wheel scene? It was endless in itself...

The ending is very abrupt, obviously setting up the sequel. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, as long as Disney releases the sequel soon (sort of like the Matrix Reloaded to Revolutions transition). But, if the ending is any indication, nothing is firm in this franchise...what they kill one minute is brought back the next.

The sequel should be good as long as they get the plot moving faster.

It was a great movie and the box office showed it.

Though I do believe Superman Returns, though it didn't have that much of a compelling story, had far better action sequences.
