Is 295X12 good enough? Moved the Ballistix to my benching rig.

Hey I got a question for all you guys (those with the ballistix), what setting is your DRAM Drive Strength and the other DRAM setting right below in the BIOS for the DFI NF4 boards?

yeah, thanks alot for taking the time to start and keep this database updated Enjoy-well done.

its an excellent read for people looking for 2 gig sticks. it'd be nice to see some more results from the pc3200 crowd as alot of people choke at the ballistix $$ so if anyone is holding back results because they can't touch the pc4000 i'd say post 'em up.

ya ! thats what I'm looking for myself ! lol

I've got an X2 3800+ coming tomorrow so I'll see what its memory controller does. My X2 4400+ couldn't handle the 2gigs and any high multis. My San Diego 3700+ does better but still not what I wanted.

I think most peeps are leaving them set to Auto, I played around with them some but ended up going back to Auto cause I didn't have the time to play with them.

It would be great if someone that DID have the time could figure out what values the AUTO defaults too though.

The auto setting for drive strength seems to vary, depending on the BIOS. With 702-2 and 3500+, the A64 Tweaker showed my auto setting as "weak". With 217 BIOS and FX, auto was "normal".

I've tried my Ballistix in two boards, with two different CPU's and two different BIOS's. The sticks will do 295 or better with every multiplier I've tried. xgman convinced me to give this RAM a try. I'm glad I did.

I heard that after the Mushkin 2x1gb come back in stock, they're changing some things to keep up with production... anybody know what they're changing? Will they still reach 250+ 2.5-3-3?

Ok guys, well this weekend had a nice suprise, my ram got here. For clarification they are patriot's 2x1gig sticks that do 2 3 2 5 stock timings, pc 3200. I did some tests. Here are the results. I won't bother with super pi right now, but I thought I would just post it here anyway, I may do super pi later if I go to the movies or stop doing research on my computer.

stick 1 = 229 max htt, looks like 2.7 was the volts for this stick as far as htt goes
    max htt for 2 3 2 5 = 216 @ 2.7 volts
    max htt for 2.5 3 2 5 = 229 @ 2.7 volts

    stick 2 = max htt 2.5 3 2 5 = 235
I didn't bother doing other tests because I just assumed the 2nd stick was at least as good as the first.

3dmark stable 24/7 for 2 gigs = 228htt @ 2.9 volts. while volts did not help for more htt, it is a good point to note that more volts did help stability. I could not be 3d stable at less volts. Now, while this is certianly NOT the highest htt ram, it's was only $211 shipped sadly, I can only run a 5/6 divider so I am only running the ram spd in my sig (212 htt). Another interesting point, my 3dmark score was almost exactly the same running what is in my sig as what it was before when I had a gig of redline at 2 2 2 8/ 274 HTT/1T, With that last thing in mind, and adding the price into the factor, I have to deffinately say that it was money well spent. $211 is the same as the value ram out there pretty much. IMO, if you don't get the ballistix, u might as well get these. The tight timings more than make up for the lost htt. In the end, u either go all out and get the best, or u get these, the best bang for the buck, eveything inbetween these 2 sets is pointless. Looking on the results post, patriot certianly gives some of those other companies a run for it's money. Too bad the crucial isn't only 300, I would have bought it then. And now, it's time to play with the other ram settings

edit : I preordered them from fry's fyi.

Tracers are discontinued and the new non tracers are as good or better it would seem.

Friend paid the totally completely absolutely insane price of $1000-$1100 didn't get exact figure since any price that high doesn't much matter. He also purchased some very cold -20'C cooling, he's having issues with the cooling setup and lockups, but besides that his results are NOT good.

He gets 3GHZ when using the cooling at -20'C after full load is about -4'C but at 3GHZ isn't completely stable only benches are stable. Maybe he's a bit of a noob to overclocking but he's been in the business a long time and had countless rigs so I doubt this is the case.

I spent $632 for my 4400+ before prices got jacked up at the egg, I can honestly say that it was FX-55 San Diego or this chip for my decisions, even though $$$ aren't the most important thing to me, it is all a matter of $$$ vs return % which is why I don't have an SLI setup.

In contrast had the FX-57 been such a great success in OC like say 3.3ghz oh ya and maybe been an X2 processor (would have made choice much easier) and SLI was 100% faster in benches with no one saying much about compatibility issues and slow downs I would have both "extra options"

For now I get the same 3dmarks05 (8700s score) and (9142 OC video) as my friend's FX-57 at 2.8ghz, while he can do 2.9x stable not much of an overclock in my opinion. He might just have a bum chip though too but extra mhz didn't much help my real world 3d scores and every mhz of GPU / MEM did way more than any mhz CPU would offer

Does anyone know about the OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K kit? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227210

Does this use Infineon BE-5 just like the Mushkin HP3200? Mushkin raised their price to $322, this OCZ is $267 and has a $27 dollar rebate.

Do they use brain power PCBs? Should say 808 or 815 on one of the corners of the PCB if they do. Also could you pop off a heat spreader? I have a hunch it's Infineon BE-5, but we don't know yet.

I was lucky enough to get 2x1GB Ballistix Tracers for $300 (reseller account with crucial) but $322 for Mushkin's PC3200 stuff seems too expensive
