    hih-res pics of PCI-E x800xl (or x800xt) w/molex needed! - PLEASE!

yeah...you guessed it...I'm curious about modding a molex connector to my BBA x800xl that's missing those components. I've narrowed the missing pieces down to 2 smt caps, 3 smt resistors, and 3 unknowns (I *THINK* they're diodes, they're on the bottom side of the card below the molex..3 in a row formation).

I can get the caps and resistors w/o problem and the other three parts shouldn't be a problem once they're known also.

I'd ask if someone is gutsy enough to de-solder one of the resistors and caps and measure their values...but I'd understand if no one wanted to risk torching their card.

and yes...I know that the molex probably isn't too useful, but hey...if it can be done...why not do it?

are you magic? how will you unsolder components off a card that doesn't have them??? :banana4: I have a BBA that doesn't have those components I'm requesting pics for. And besides, If I did have a card with those parts...I'd unsolder them myself as I have no problems working with smt components.

since you do modding though...if you run across a board with those components...could you get the values of them? I think a lot of people would like to do this mod. I think the x800xl uses the same pcb as the x800xt and x850xt. I'm pretty sure the x800xt has the molex on it.

I need this as well! My card is a pretty good overclocker and could benifit from the molex.

What are you trying to get with this? Better overclocks? Are you thinking this will provide more power or just more stable power?

not quite sure what it will provide yet. I'm thinking possibly more *stable* power. However, I won't know just how high my card clocks until I upgrade the cooling on it. I can hit 455 on the core...but it artifacts after 10 seconds...so I'm thinking that's heat related. But if the molex will help in ANY way, then I'd like to have it. Powercolor and Club3d have it on their cards...so there must be a reason behind it somewhere.

The x800xl would need the same components for the molex that are on the x800xt pci-e card, since the PCB's are the same. So, closeups of an x800xt would work also.

I did find out that the 2 missing resistors are labled "0". The caps and other components are still a mystery. the three on the backside of the card should be the easiest to find out.

Catalyst.X - sorry if my comment was a bit on the "smart-ass" side...I was pretty tired yesterday. But yeah, you're right...I'm wanting to find out the values of those components that are on an x800xt or x800xt pe pci-e card.

I don't think those PowerColor cards o/c better on average. However, it may different once you start voltmodding.

PCI-E is supposed to provide 75W to the card. I think that should be enough even for a modded X800XL.

I thought the revised spec was 150w...but I whoever I read that post from could very well be talking out their ass too :p

besides, if the mod can be done, then why not do it...after all...this is XS right?

thanks for the links, but I've already got most of those pics. I think I have what I need at the moment. I've got the part numbers from the Diodes on the bottom, I have the 2 missing resisitors, and the Caps I'll have the values sometime this weekend. Then all I need to do is get all the stuff together and mod it

i'm wondering how this went. did you add a molex or a 6-pin PCI-e? that powercolor pic looked like it had both.

well...it kinda took shape in another thread :p

I have all but the diodes on my card. As soon as I can get those, I'll have the molex mod done.

The 150W spec is for cards with the PCIe connector... 75W from the extra cnx, 75W from the edge fingers.

Oh... and here's the connector from the actual 150W spec :p

    Peace

    thanks for the clarification EMC2.

I was thinking that 150w through the mb was a LOT.

    I've read about this also.

I'm planning on buying and volt modding an X800XL on water. I am deliberately choosing one with a power connector (ie Powercolor or Club3D).

Why not sell your card and buy one of these? I know that's less fun though!

From what I've seen of X800XLs so far, they are heat-limited. I haven't seen any with decent cooling or volt modding yet. Anyone point me in the direction of any?

Read some more of the X800XL threads... several of us are up and over 500/600 clocks with Silencer5's and on DI, mine has gone 550/620...

Oh, and teh power connector thing and the 1.6nS hype is a myth. Mine is sans connector with 2.0nS ram and does "just fine"

    Thanks Charlie.

I was getting worried these things were stuck in the 450 Mhz region

Did you do a vmem mod? I start getting artifacts at 567mem. How much does better cooling help the GPU? I can only get 434gpu right now but I have a maze4 gpu on order.

I didn't do the Vmod. They seem to clock just fine I'm sure I'll try it though...
