    AMD Radeon HD7000 comin in Q2 ?

    From Guru3D news: http://www.guru3d.com/news/radeon-hd...in-q2-already/

More and more rumors are starting in regards to AMD's upcoming Radeon HD 7000 series graphics cards. The latest indications denote that in may the series 7000 cards will go into production already.

It is an interesting fact as AMD is still releasing series 6000 card in the low-end segment, even next week some 6400/6500 series products will arrive to market.

The new architecture will make a move towards 28nm which allows AMD to put some more transistors on the GPU core alright, bringing in more performance once again. It is expected that AMD will move forward with the VLIW4 architecture which brings good performance with less transistors as the series 6900 cards have proven.

The 7000 series going to production does not say much about an actual final release though, so when the products will hit the market remains to be seen. but surely sooner than later.

I don't know if 28nm is ready, but well time will tell ...

I thought that was what the article was referring to at first. It would be almost impossible to pull off and almost self detrimental considering the 6000's just came out not to long ago... if they could pull if off however major props to AMD

I think they can actually, since 6950 and 6970 are going down constantly. If they have good rates at 28nm i'm sure they'll popp out new generation pretty soon

I think the same, but let's not forget Southern Island was allready ready in March 2010 in 32nm, so let's imagine this card is the SI in 28nm.. ( with more SP ? )

the only question who remain, is to know if TSMC is ready with the 28nm, and i seriously doubt they are ..

HD4770 was pretty early in the 40nm too.Maybe that sort of card is being prepared.

Hope this is true because both ATI and NVIDIA has been stuck on 40nm for like, I don't know, 2 years?

I believe it, I suspect a late sptember/october release as well.

Are they with GF or tsmc for this?

If this is true then I wonder what Nvidia will come up with to keep up.

I really doubt they will hit Q2, seems very optimistic.
Wichita supposedly taped out awhile ago according to Charlie so it is possible that a 28nm pipe cleaner, Barts shrunk, is on it's way out of the ovens.
Will they keep it simple and stick to v5 or re-work it to v4?

IMO- Q3 seems much more likely.
Edit- Charlie agrees that the date for volume production of HP 28nm is the unknown.

According to Digitimes the production will start in May already. Charlie on the other hand said SI taped out in february, and would come out late August earliest. If there is something going in production, it'll most likely be a pipe cleaner product like 4770 was. I'm still betting that SI proper will come in Q4 11.

    Here is a direct quote:

The 28nm high performance (HP) process is in risk production
Considering the disaster TSMC's 40nm process ended up being at the beginning of production, I would think both AMD and NVIDIA will be playing this one safe. If anything, I would say Q4 2011 for high end next generation parts not because they won't be ready but that's usually when flagship products are launched; right in time for the Christmas shopping season.

If I had to make a wild guess at things, I would say that the first product from AMD with the 28nm process will be a replacement for the HD 5770 - a card that AMD roadmaps show as being available until....Q3 2011.

    Kepler.

I'm sure that both AMD and NVIDIA already have early risk samples in-hand already.

last time i suggested that we would have a mid range pipe cleaner card (like the 4770) sometime before the end of this year, i had a dozen people come down on my intelligence level.

Just like people were convinced 28nm cards would hit in 2010.

Makes me wonder what will AMD HD7000 series bring us as features. Raw power is no problem these days, but features like MLAA are something i'm way more excited about.
Maybe new, even better AF or texture sharpening post porcess filter, maybe MLAA2 with even higher performance and better filtering. Who knows, but i'm looking for such features more than raw power really.

So basically I'm holding on to my wallet until autumn to upgrade my video card if I'm sitting on a 5xxx card. Yay!

surprisingly, both of those things are done mostly in software and could be released for 5800 series as well.
