I will be seriously thinking of getting one in close future. If not Desire HD, than Galaxy S definitely...
    Android is the future
What about HTC EVO 4G? It's good for USA market.

An unofficial froyo rom has been released and it only has a few quirks. The official version should be out very soon given how complete the leaked version is

Only for the I9000 galaxy s phones. Not the US ones. The US ones are currently moding unofficial roms to suit their needs until a US release hopefully Nov. Samsung keeps pushing the date back but they have stated that it will come out this year.

Froyo is out only for the scandinavian countries atm. It is said that it will be available in Greece at the end of this month. What i want is froyo to work flawless without the need of any lagfix, but i dont see this happening!

Really i dont think a lag fix is going to be needed persay. The rfs file system sucks regardless though. I played with the beta that the captivate has to play with and its very fast compared to eclair. Heck a lot of the beta froyo captivate users prefer not use a lag fix since it can be kind of glitchy anyways. Once an official release has been made and the guys cooking roms over at xda have some time im sure an optimized froyo rom will be real smooth.

There has alredy been ready for download/install [ROM]JPM/JP6 "GoodBye RFS" ROM 0.2 (pre rooted, pre lagfixed). They claim to be the fastest rom ever and without any issues so far. BUT im still new on the android and i ll wait for the official release.

Probably because flashing an unofficial ROM is going to VOID warranty and more difficult?
Thats what has prevented me so far from playing with mine.

There have been a number of captivate guys who said they exchanged their phones with unofficial roms on them with no problem. As long as its not the reason why the phone doesnt work and flashing back to stock is generally a very easy process. These phone are pretty difficult to brick

After installing JPO firmware and Voodoo lagfix the phone is flying but the guys at CyanogenMOD are working on an AOSP Android 2.2.1 ROM for the phone and the results show that Samsung's software development team are an absolute steaming pile of manure. Two half drunk guys are producing a ROM which gives performance miles ahead of anything Samdung has turned out to date.

It's random how they are working on Cyanogen. Many changes to people who are working on the project. I'm guessing it's good idea just try out Froyo that eugene release on xda because he got the GPS working which was the last issue with Froyo.

hmmm why are so many people interested in this phone?
i gave it a try a few days ago and i cant see anything special about it...
the touchscreen felt rubbery, performance wasnt that great, typing a url was a major pain in the butt...

android is definitely shaping up nicely though from a visual pov...

Because it's the best phone on the market... personal preference may lead a few towards the Evo or the N8 but those are on select carriers only. You can get a Galaxy S on every carrier, not to mention a matching tablet that is the best on the market.

I should add with the StupidFast kernals it beats any other phone's performance by a massive margin.

Really? It's only one of the best because of specs on paper.
    I have a SGS (non-US) with Doc's v7.6 & speedmod (all tweaks) with no-rfs Ext4 lagfix. It's still regularly slow and a bit unresponsive.

I hate to say it, but my sister's iphone 4 craps all over it and so does my technology illiterate friend's for whom I had to setup. My mother's Iphone 3GS isn't even that far behind. But I'd rather not be stuck with an Apple phone. Hell, there's a reason they call rooted/hacked Iphones 'Jailbroken'

Going to try Doc's V8.01 possibly later in the week or in about 2-3 and see how it goes. So far it looks like another noticeable gain.

Man im running Darky's 4.0 on my captivate with ext 4 overkill 1.2ghz and this thing has no hang ups. Most of the guys i work with are iphone guys and their phones only trump mine on app selection. The Ip4 uses much of the same hardware and their cpu, which is the same, is clocked lower to my knowledge.

    @saaya.
Im not sure how the screen feels rubbery but everyone is entitled to their opinion. As far as typing is concerned my wife hates typing on a touch screen generally but doesnt mind my phone at all and wants to get one. Again its all opinion but the only thing i see easier to type on is an evo or droid x.

iPhone4? Really? The iPhone4 is one of the biggest jokes in technology. As for bigger app selection.... I can certainly deal without having 200,000 useless apps to sort through. No one can use 30 different fart apps a day. But seriously, the iPhone is a joke in every way shape and form compared to any of the top 10 Android phones.

Anyone who has the Fascinate need to check out geekniks kernal's. It never even pauses to do anything. Everything is instant.

just rooted the Vibrant and put on Axura 2.0.5 (Froyo) ROM and its totally awesome, very slick skin as well as the performance being awesome over stock while grabbing the link it looks like it got another update to 2.0.6

but now looks like the 2.0.6 is final as they are developing anymore - but I like it for the time being

With the JPU FroYo 2.2.1 firmware that's been leaked today the phone is flying without any tweaking or lagfix. Also adds the ability to update over the air.
