from everything i have read and experienced they have not fixed the GPS yet. They have patched up the problem but it seems to be more of a bandaid than a fix. Its still not as accurate as it should be but the lock time number of Sats and holding a lock have been improved a lot.
Do both of the things on this page to fix GPS:

Is there any way to block all the adds that come with free software on this phone?
It is riddled with the stuff.
Samsung Fascinate (Verizon's Galaxy S) came out for Verizon Online yesterday in stores today so I went over to the store by my office and picked one up. Amazing phone. The screen image quality overall sucks compared to my Motorola Droid but the increase in size pretty much makes up for it. It's nice and light too
I've already got mine rooted and now I just wait and pray Crystal Clear ROMs is working on a ROM for Fascinate

That was the first bandaid that the guys at xda came up with to make the gps usuable. Samsung did some tweaking in the jh2/jh3 rom, which improved it a lot, but it still isnt fixed. From what ive read in the captivate forums 1 in like 10 guys claim that the gps works as it should which just tells me most likely that minority does quite know what to expect. I think there is a lot of hope samsung will have the gps reworked with the release of froyo near the end of september as it is a big move.
Maybe its just the facinate but the captivates screen is definitely better than the droids. Maybe you just need to play a high def movie with a lot of color and special effects. Its a beautiful thing and even more so due to the fact that its on a phone. The pentile matrix is the only negative aspect about the s-amoled screen and even then its only really noticable if you hold the screen and inch from your face lol
Ah, my GPS works great. Pinpoints location spot on and I've used Navigation a ton.
Also agree that side by side, my Vibrant screen is much much sexier than that of the Droid.

I take it this is the same phone as the Sprint Samsung Galazy S Epic 4 ?
Except the Epic 4 has a slide out keyboard.
I had been waiting for the HTC EVO but for some reason they are like next to impossible to get. So right next to the EVO on display they had the Epic 4 and I picked that puppy up.
Price was $325 and then you get a $100 rebate, so down to $225.
They took my orgional iPhone 8gig and game me $120 for it. So when all taken into account the phone cost me $105
I grabbed extra battery, car charger and plastic case.
So far I totally love this phone vs iPhone for all the same reason Fugger said. All the exrta features this puppy has makes it so nice. Pictures are sharper, focus better and has flash, nice quality movies also. The USB connection allows it to act just like any USB device so you can upload/download anything file, make folders etc.
I had a version of iTunes that worked with Win7 64 and iPhone I had, but could not update it as it will kill any connection attempt to iPhone, nor could I use the store until I updated iTunes.
At first my batter life sucked. But getting Advanced Task Killer allowed me to kill all apps but ones I needed. I do have it connected to Wi-Fi and that hasnt seem to hurt anything. So far day 3 without needed a recharge. I wish it would auto kill apps when finished with them tho.
Interface is nice and snappy, I love it
With Wi-Fi I can connect to my WHS and play music or movies I have on there. Plus it will use Wi-Fi for any internet realted stuff around I do around the home.
The Marketplace has a fair amount of apps there so thats good.
All in all its a really nice phone !
Forgot to add that the plan I am on is the $69 + $10 a month vs $100 for iPhone

Thanks man
At first I was going to upgeade my first gen iPhone to a 3g with the special deals they had rolling around for them. Stores never had any when I went in to actually try and get one.
Later the EVO caught my eye and was sold on it when I went into a Sprint store and played around with one. I got on a waiting list and still they never got any on
Just to be clear this is teh phone I picked up
http://now.sprint.com/epic4g/?ECID=vanity:epic4g
I think they are they same phones as Fuggers T-Mobile, not sure if Fuggers has a slide out keyboard. That doesn't really matter to me all that much.
Another important note. Just a few blocks down the street there is a smaller Sprint store there where I had gone in and played around with the EVO, then put myself on a waiting list. Later I went into a bigger Sprint store over at the mall where purchased mine there. I was surprised to find out that they would take my first gen iPhone as a trade in and give me $120 for it as the first store made no such offer. The guy there said something about only the bigger/main Sprint stores did that. Be sure to ask them if you do a trade in.
Also the day of purchase we started doing contact/photo transfers to new phone we found this would take awhile. The guy said just take it home and do what you need to do, because there was going to be a delay for the new phone to become active. Next day I go back to do trade in and sales guys said only $39 for iPhone, I went no way and came back next day to speak with the guy I had pruchased from, he said there was many different options on there screen, hit the right button and $120 was credited back to me.
I have that SETCPU app but havent figured out how to get it to overclock, something about I need a Superuser Permission or being Rooted... hmm no clue on that yet. It doesnt really need to be OC'd but I thought it would be fun to try.
On first gen iPhone try loading up Xtremesystems, it takes for freaking ever, new Epic 4 its extrememly fast. Iphone battery life when surfing the web was horrible, a good session of 30 minutes on the web would drain about 3/4's of my battery life and be so slow I wanted to throw it out a window. Now with Epic 4 surfing the web is very nice and can go a long time.
If you turn off all un needed apps, set email to only check when you want and not do it every few minutes it helps a great deal on battery life. Other things like going to system settings, selecting About Phone and Battery Use you can see what apps are using up your battery life and adjust things. Tune your phone to lower battey usage is pretty easy.

Well.... it has a larger screen while keeping the same resolution so there is more pixelation especially on small text and some website with small text are unreadable until you zoom in. On the droid no matter how small the text is it's still crystal clear. The colors on the Galaxy S aren't "better" they are just more saturated and vivid. The colors are actually more accurate on the original Droid. The IPS screen on the Droid is also the best screen available for outdoor viewing. Though the Galaxy S AMOLED screens still perform great in outdoor light.

Nothing beats Super AMOLED contrast ratio. Also outdoor visibility is surprisingly good on Wave, not sure how Galaxy S performs but it's using the same screen tech...

Can you take pictures of both displaying the same image. When i see my brother next time i can do it but my camera isnt quite as fancy.
@buckeye. It seems with smartphones you have to modify a certain config file and then compile it into a kernel to overclock your cpu. Supposedly these cpus can go up to 1.6ghz but it seems no one has pushed it that far yet. If you havent gone to the XDA developers forums yet you need to. They with probably have an overclock mod soon for the epic if they havent already ported one of the ones out now.
Got to play with a friends Galaxy S today, screen is super sexy! Was great out in the daylight sun too.
