thx cold2010!
unigine and fc2 perf cut in half? thats interesting...
especially the unigine perf drop will be a challange for nvidia to explain with their pr slogan being "dx11 done right"
i really like that they compared it to a 260 and 275, really brings things into perspective and makes sure nobody gets fooled into thinking these cards will be a performance upgrade!
i wonder where they got their pricing info from though...
5850 for 309$? 5830 for 219$? the lowest prices on newegg are 289$ and 199$ respectively...
so for 200$ you can either chose between a highly castrated gpu from ati or a castrated memory config from nvidia, meh... too bad these slides dont show how the 192bit 460 performs vs the 256bit one... if its about the same then the 192bit 460 sounds like a nice deal for 200$... but i dont really know how well the 5830s oc... do they reach 5850/470 performance as well? id think so... so then in the end nothing really changes except for prices of the 5830 and maybe 5850 dropping a bit...
hmmm i am waiting for overclocked performance

7.1 digital surround... im wondering is it going to be only for uncompressed audio?
C'mon nvidia, ati and intel have true hd and dts-hd ma bitstreaming, you should too!
anyway, i think the question is not how well it fares against the 5830, but more so, will it convince potential 5770 buyers to spend extra?

why couldn't the GTX 465, 470 and 480 have fans as big as this one?
i7 920 @ 4GHz 1.25v
GTX 470 @ 859MHz 1062mv
No it's only in Unigine. Stalker and DiRT are fine.
A bit faster than HD 5830... let's see the 1GB version with 25% more bandwidth.
looks like unigine was just filling up the ram way more than it liked, is that the only card reviewed with less than a gig?
thats not a review, just a press kit, meh
Fantastic GTX 460 win!!!
E7500@4ghz /P5QL-E / 4x1gb DDR2@998mhz Markivision /HD 500GB SATAII Samsumg /Vipower 600wats /BFG GTX280
Price? That's all that matters for these cards.
The really stupid part about this "review" is they had to go to ultra-high resolutions with less than 30fps framerates to show us how its faster than the 5830? Smells.. desperate.
NV will need some crazy good drivers for the 460 to beat the 5830 as the 5830 OCs very well. My gut is telling me the 460 won't have anywhere near the OC room being touted. Also look at the second pic... "performance close to the 5830" WOW! I can pay more money for the 460 and get performance CLOSE to the 5830 LOL.

They cost the same...
Same price as the 5830 and generally faster? Not too bad, IMO.

Why would it not have much overclocking room?
Both the gtx 480 and 470 both overclock well for such hot products and the 460 produces less heat and its pretty safe to assume it uses less energy. sConsidering the gtx 465 overclocks pretty well and has a bunch of crap silicon that just produces heat, I think the gtx 460 should overclock better.
Additionally, nvidia is touting this to be a pretty good overclocker and not from just their mouth, but some of their partners which sell both AMD and Nv products.
Its really safe to assume that this card will overclock well or atleast better than the gtx 480/470.
Additionally consider the benchmarks and the bullet points from NV came from the same package, it just seems NV is not be completely arrogant or conniving in their advertising. With NV vs AMD graphs actually starting at 0(which AMD has not been doing lately), it actually very tactful of NV for once. They are not crapping on their competition to make themselves look better and they are not spouting too much crap about gtx 460(hyping it up).
NV is definitely showing a sign of weakness those. The 5830 is the lame duck of AMD lineup. The 5830 performs worse than a 5850 substantially and uses more power. Pretty much every reviewer panned it and the two that didn't damaged their reputation. Honestly if the gtx 460 doesn't blow the 5830 out of the park considering how new this chip is, its going to be a disappointment for the 200 dollar crowd considering the wait.

I think the GTX 460 1GB 256bit is much more interesting than the 192bit 768MB part or GTX 465 for that matter, 1GB and 256bit should be minimum for a mainstream ($200 or greater) card today. Will be interesting to see a review comparing both those but I'd guess it to be around 5~8% faster in average at 15% higher cost ($229 vs $199 which remains to be seen) I'd definitely see it worth it.

No, they don't. 1GB 460 cheapest I can find is £272, cheapest 1GB 5830 I can find is £140. Massive difference.
That sounds like a defensive fanboy to meI merely pointed out current pricing and Gigabytes own words on the 460 vs. 5830 matter. The rest of what your saying is null and void considering I said it was my gut instinct telling me retail 460s won't OC as far as NV are making out.

what do you base that on?
itll come clocked at 675mhz it seems, and some come clocked at 725mhz by default, some probably even higher. and they supposedly overclock to 900mhz with some voltage tweaking, maybe 950 with good cooling... thats the same max clocks 470s and 480s reach, but 470s start at lower default clocks and 480s at about the same default clock. so by what definition do 460s overclock "better" than 470s and 480s?
im not saying they wont, but there hasnt been any info suggesting they will... originally there was, cause originally nvidia clocked 460s at 625mhz only, but that seems to have changed now...
the graphs are from gigabyte, not nvidia... and nvidia probably isnt hyping the 460 all that much cause... well there isnt that much to hype about :P
at best gf104 will be an alternative to rv870, its clearly no rv870 killer by any means... so what is there to hype? the best gf104 CAN do is lower rv870 prices by 50$... dont get me wrong, thats great... but def nothing to hype about, is it?
