Look at the GTX 480 as it is today, and compare it's PPP with the competing GPU (5870). It makes it much easier to judge it, why go back in time to dismiss something that is right in front of your eyes?
It's learnt from history that a delay usually means a failure. The reality today is that even a pair of 5870 can heat up my room at least 5C in the summer. I wouldn't be able to imagine the heating ability of a pair of 480 in a room without air conditioner, over the summer when ATI Southern Islands are not yet available. The only point for me to buy 480 is perhaps to benchmark tessellation before DX11 games come out.

Sorry to be brutally honest with you but your other arguments don't really make sense.
Itel's and and AMD both are offering their 6-cores as the top of the line desktop CPU. Intel is asking $1000 but AMD can't ask more than $300, because nobody would buy a inferior product for the same price as the superior one. They have probably the same manufacturing costs, but the retail price is based on the competition. It is a simple rule and the same Principe applies to all competing products.

If this doesn't make sense to you, or you don't want to catch the point, or you wish to just argue and deny the simplest rules too, then to be brutally honest, you will never be able to make scenes of my writings.

Forget it, "bad yield" simply isn't in his vocabulary. What point is he defending again?

Oh right, the part where nVidia intentionally shoots themselves in the foot. Almost forgot!

As a consumer, I don't care about "bad yield", it is not my concern. I don't care about manufacturings costs, that's my concern either. All i care about is the PPP compared to the competing products.

I see some are hocked on bad yield, castrated GPUs, and manufacturings costs to explain why the Fermi is such junk, or why it is expensive. These people tend to deny that competition affects the price, not the yield, and manufacturings costs.

Okay, so if you're "just" a consumer with no interest in the back ground of these chips, why are you here?

I'll come back to this thread when it's reached page thirty and you're banned.

That's why I said your Intel and AMD CPU analogy is invalid.

They don't compete in the same segments with "equivalent" products but Nvidia and ATI very much do compete with each other from top to bottom.

And if you think all things involved in planing, designing, making and selling GPUs don't matter for the retail price to the end-user just google something like product life cycle. Competition in markets and/or segments is a very important subject but not the only one aspect for positioning your product.

    huge LOL at Sam Oslo.

The simple fact is, IF nvidia could release a product with 512sp then they would. Why? to charge a premium. Then they could have used the gtx470 to counter the 5870.

    Simple math of it is.

Huge Delays to market + cut down core + low number of units in market = Fail.
