The problem with OC contests is that there are so many ways of doing one, and none of them are perfect.

You have the speed type of competitions (what we usually see in most live events), that will probably favour specific people who can work in those conditions, able of taking decisions on the fly and forseeing some of the hardware behaviour. A heavy amount of luck is involved, and the winners vary greatly from competition to competition. Some guys, who really take their time and can produce outstanding results otherwise, will not allways be able to show their magic in this type of competitions. These are the guys that work weeks on a platform, but when they are done, you can bet that is the best of that platform (think old-school, think hipro).

You have the online competitions, where each can test in it's own way and time, and where skilled and masterfull gurus like hipro can really show their stuff and win most of the time. These are heavy contests, where the winners are not so hard to predict. But there are cash and sponsor differences involved in this type of competition, and there is no show for audience other then speicific forums.

In the end, you cannot have them all in only one contest. Every overclocker would like to have a week to go daily to that competition room and test and compete, but that is not quite possible. Every manufacturerwould like to have more show and more succes with the competition inwhich they invest a great deal of money, but a perfect formula in which you can also have a great show and a great, heavy competition is not yet found.

What can one say? I am sure that in football or baseball or any other type of competition it took them a while untill they have found the winning formula. If you think in terms of years, overclocking competitions are still very young, we are all in a search for the perfect format. If this beautifull passion of ours will withstand the test of time (with all the market going into the notebook/netbook area), we shall live to see. But untill then, every overclocker will be happy with every chance to participate in a new competition, even if we all know that it is not perfect. So good job for Asus for organising this and for inviting such great overclockers to their event. Have a great one guys!!!
