I havent been able to get a proper answer if it could or couldn't.... if it does, this might be my next board

so far ACC will not unlock my 550BE which is a known stepping to unlock. i tried all of the tricks with ACC and it stayed a 550BE with 2 cores. might be an option i missed though i will look more in depth shortly

I have a 550BE also and was hoping to do the same thing .... thanks for getting back to me, appreciate it.

Made you'll stumble across it or maybe asus will provide in a bios update....

i am thinking about going onto their forums and throwing a fit until i get a BIOS that supports unlocking.

phrasing it like i didn't buy what i thought was one of the best AM3 boards to get less options than a $80 biostar

I have this board too. I got it for a review and it worked fine. It's fast at default clock speed and you have plenty of bios settings.

Unfortunately it is semi-dead now. I tried to figure out max reference clock with default voltages and Crosshair III bootet up to 325 mhz. But it wasn't stable and after a few reboots it doesn't boot anymore. Lcd-poster says that INIT CPU and DET DRAM is ok but it then hangs on TESTCMOS. I tried lots of things (including hotflash) but I couldn't get it to work up to now. Hopefully a new bios chip from ASUS can help me to bring this baby back to life.

980A is just 780A with DDR3 it is no different at all there should be no issues with the chipset that didn't already show up with 780A

    and hows 32m@4.1ghz sound?

I have been looking at the crosshair III but I already have the Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P paired with the 955 and I was trying to see it there is enough of an improvement to warrant buying the crosshair III.

BTW I also have the Asus M4N82 Deluxe which uses the 980A chipset and it’s DDR2 with three PCI-e 2.0 slots dual X16 or triple X8. The same 955 will run 3D benches @4100+MHz on both the Asus and Gigabyte MBs listed above using liquid cooling so the M4N82 can’t be that bad. IMO the M4N82 Deluxe isn’t as refined as my other Asus MBs but it allows me to run the GTX 260’s in Tri-Sli with the 955. The M4N82 is kind of like my Asus M3A79-T Deluxe using a very early bios.
