Gigabyte ds3l (revision 2) Vdroop Mod????

So, I've combed the internet looking for the vdroop mod for the revision 2 ds3l.
Mine looks like the on found here.

I've found mods for the ds3r, and dq6, (and for the ds3l rev 1) Nobody has cracked the code on this one yet? Does anyone know where to measure cpu volts on this mobo? (Or how i would go about finding the vdroop mod?)

The Vdroop is terrible. Bios set to 1.6 i get 1.54 according to occt @idle. Once loaded it goes all the way down to 1.47!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is with a q6600 at 3.72 ghz. The next in bios voltage increment after 1.6 volts is 1.8 volts, which is a bit extreme, even for me. (IF THERE is a mod to bump up voltage, that would be great, and would even eliminate the need for this mod.)
I have 2 fast 120 fans above the mobo, 2 blowing air onto the mobo, and 1 sucking air out the back of my case. (i also threw on some ram sinks onto the mossfets, and power management smd's right above the cpu socket.
(the multi reading is of the video card)

You can't trust software readings. You need to figure out where to measure it on the board with a DMM. Till then you don't really know how good or bad the Vdrop on the board is. It wouldn't surprise me if the voltage regulators on that board are similar to the ones on similar models. The parts used between the boards may differ a bit but the configuration should be about the same.

the ds3l is actually the lowest prices p35 ds3l that gigabyte carries. If you take a look at newegg, and compare the gigabyte p35 boards, you'll see the vreg layout is very different. (the ds3l i think is comparatively week (vreg wise) alongside the dq6, ds3r, etc, which both cost on average $50 to $120 more.
Anyway it still is an amazing no frills board which has a great chipset. I trust occt way more than i do cpu-z, etc, i think it is giving accurate readings but if anyone knows where i can read the volts on the board, please let me know.

Wouldn't i need to reduce the resistance between vdiff and ground with a pot? What is fb?

That 1.6 volt is only ~1.47 at load, the board can handle it (i've got an mc30 on the north bridge.) If it didn't droop so bad then i (or anyone else who owns the board) could set the voltage lower, and get a higher over clock, that's my impetus here.
Do you know how i would find a read point for the cpu volts?

Hey sorry for exhuming this thread. I think finding the golden fleece of this mod will make many people happy (myself included so any expert advice would be greatly appreciated. I measured around the fb, idroop, and fb pins, and found some very confusing results.

Disabling the vdroop might have something to do with removing, or modifying the the caps centered to the right of the isl6312 chip. (As was the case with the g80 8800gts vdroop mod)




here is some info food for thought from the manual:

VDIFF
VDIFF is the output of the differential remote-sense amplifier.
The voltage on this pin is equal to the difference between
VSEN and RGND.

FB and COMP
These pins are the internal error amplifier inverting input and
output respectively. FB, VDIFF, and COMP are tied together
through external R-C networks to compensate the regulator.

IDROOP
The IDROOP pin is the average channel-current sense
output. Connecting this pin through a tuned parallel R-C
network to FB allows the converter to incorporate output
voltage droop proportional to the output current. If voltage
droop is not desired leave this pin unconnected.

so would it be possible to pop the capacitor, and resistor that's connected to idroop off to disable vdroop?

I penciled the resistor marked (which was connected to the idroop pin) yet the resistance between idroop and ground staid the same (and my vdroop got a bit worse

that makes sense. being that that pin is connected to it u increased the voltage flow. if u where able to lessen it it might work.
I will do this mod if people will pay. i would hate to blow my mobo and not have the money to replace it.

lmfao nobody is going to pay for a new motherboard so you can try the mod. its your choice if you want to do it and your responsibility if something goes wrong with it. any mod on this forum is the same do it at your own risk and thats it. either you have the balls or you wanna sit back and watch. its up to you. not everybody mods there computers. remember that.

hey guys, long time reader here at XS, first time poster (been an active ocf member though a long time)

Just thought id share the macro pic i took of this area of the DS3L rev 2... maybe it can be of some use here, we got a thread at ocf going and we all know that alot of people would love a vdroop mod for this board.

I'ts great to see some interest sparking up on this.
I've meant to update for a while (i just moved, and have been pretty busy lately,not to mention that i converted back from water,)
When i was removing a heat sink that i had placed on the vregs above the cpu socket, so i could install a gemin II air cooler, i accidentally ripped off the middle capaciter, and part of the plastic outer shell of a coil. At this point i felt like i had nothing to lose, so i took a tiny screwdriver to the board, and plowed up pin three on the vreg chip, as marked in my previous post as idroop.
AMAZINGLY, this destroyed the vdroop, i'll post up some screenshots later on the week.
just be careful everything is done at your own risk, etc. etc
I'll proabably only have to sacrifce a ~50 mhz for going back to air!!!!
