Small form factor Watercooling (PC Design Labs QMicra V2)

I decided to go with a QMicra V2 for my SFF build, looks like an awesome case, its tiny and still has room for a Dual 120mm rad...

Just want to get some advice from you guys on my choice of WC gear

    System Specs:

    Q6600 G0 or E8400 (still unsure)
    Gigabyte G33M DS2R
    4gigs OCZ PC2-8000 Platinum XTC
    8800GTS 512
    Corsair HX520

    WC Gear

D-Tek FuZion CPU Block 1/2" Barbs
    Swiftech MCW30 Chipset Block
D-Tek FuZion GFX or Swiftech MCW-60 + ramsinks
    Swiftech MCR-220 rad
Laing DDC 18watt with Petras Top 1/2" barbs
    Swiftech Micro Res
    2x Noctua 55 CFM fans

I used Martins Flow Calculator and got 1.88 GPM which seems good

Do you think this setup would handle a Q6600 and an 8800gts and the chipset? The G33 is a pretty cool chipset and the G92 8800 is considerably cooler than the G90...

    So any input / recommendations?

    Thanks!

Will you be overclocking the CPU ?

yes but at close to stock voltage

Maybe the E8400 would be a better option?

That setup should handle things fine.

Maybe the E8400 would be a better option?
What's the intended use of the system ?

The E8400 will obviously run cooler, but your proposed build should still handle the quad if you do decide to go with that option.

Thats great to know, It will be used mainly for gaming / video editing / encoding and F@H so the Quad would really help out...

Maybe I could leave the Chipset block out and get the Asus P5E-VM HDMI

It has a great Chipset cooler unlike the Gigabyte

If thermals are a concern, you would be surprised how little a quadcore helps you while gaming or encoding. Unless your programs are designed to utilize all 4 cores then the quad is just unused processing power. The quad comes in handy when multitasking but I don't know if that is much of a concern (don't know if you want to game while encoding).

WC'ing the chipset doesn't really add much heat into the loop, so either way (buying the ASUS or WC'ing the Gigabyte) won't have any adverse effects on your system.

The ASUS board seems to have a few more features/connections compared to the Gigabyte. Looks like a good choice in my opinion if it's within your budget.

Hey leave the little Asus alone Big Daddy!

I dont plan to encode and game at the same time, and since the E8400 has SSE4.1 it might be even better at encoding than a quad in some cases? Its also more likely to clock higher and add less heat....

Hmmm, But Quad sounds much better than Dual :P

I wonder which is more future proof? The G0 Q6600 should do about 3.6ghz and games like Crysis are already getting some benefit from Quad Cores..

Has anyone seen a E8400 VS Q6600 article?

    Thanks again for the help

Hvaing owned a pretty much identical setup

    Q6600
    G33M-DS2R
    4gb ram
    5x hdds
    8800GTS 512
    Thermaltake lanbox
Swiftech H20-220 Compact Liquid Cooling Kit
    D-Tek fuzion gpu block

Temps are pretty good with a dual 120mm rad, but you really want to have some airflow over the mosfets if you put in a quad.
The chipset cooler ran cool enough for me to not worry about.

A quad Penny would be awesome but the case and WC Gear have taken up a considerably portion of the budget :p

Thanks oohms, I will but AS5 and ramsinks on the mosfets and put an 80mm Noctua there

Thanks for all the input, im confident that it wont melt now

Listen to daddy and get the E8400. The PA120.2 mounted on the left (out)side of the Lanbox, could barely handle the G0's 3.6Ghz for 24/7.
An E8400 at 4-4.2GHz will be faster and cooler than a quad

    I had the QX6700 since day-1, then the Q6600 B3, then the Q6600 G0, then a Q6700 for a fortnight and then a QX9650. My 4.4GHz E8500 is the keeper in the end

I would go for the quad. Q6600 G0's are pretty cheap, and it is great to have the extra cores taking care of background processes.

A single application may not take advantage of the extra cores, but you always have more than a single process running at a time!
