Do any of you guys use Standby S3 mode in XP or Vista?

I seem to be having issues were the Computer won't wake up properly now and again, it just hangs when turned on. It's fine when clocked about 3GHz or lower (e4300 + P35-S3).

It's 24hr Orthos stable on the 3GHz+ clocks.

    Anyone else having similar problems?

    I have some stupid questions.......

I bought 4GB Mushkin XP PC2-6400 EPP memory and when I put it in an pressed the power button, the computer comes on for about 2 seconds, shuts off then turns on and boots....weird.

When I tried booting to windows, I kept getting BSODs. Now, this ram has printed on it 2.0v. Is the default setting for ram in the bios 1.8v? If so, if I use the DDR Overvolt bios setting and set it to 0.20+ v give me 2.0v? According to Everest my 2.5v setting is 2.0v and according to Easytune 5 it is set to 2.0v.

When I use CPU-Z it says my memory frequency is set to 533Mhz and my FSB:RAM is set to 1:2 with timings of 5-5-5-15. Isn't it supposed to be set to 4-4-3-10 @ 400MHz? How do i set it to do that? I don't want to kill my ram.

    Thanks

Burner, yes you must set the voltage, timings, and ratio correctly yourself. "0" is 1.8v, so +1 is 1.9v, +2 is 2.0v, etc. You will need to hit Ctrl-f1 at the main BIOS screen to display all the features. The memory multiplier, RAM timings, and RAM voltage are all on the same page. If you installed windows with the system that unstable you should consider the install a total loss and simply reinstall over again after making sure the RAM is configured correctly. You can boot into Memtest+ 1.7v to test your RAM's stability as well.

Ashm, sounds like it still might be an OS issue there... make sure you don't have a Readyboost device in the computer when you resume from standy if using Vista, it tends to slow down or crash it. I either hibernate or turn off my system, I don't use standby at all and never will anymore.

I'm considering buying the P35-DS3R version, but I want to install the Thermalright HR-03 on my video card, has anyone had any experience or can tell me if there is enough room?

    BIG PROBLEM DISCOVERED:

I have localized a big problem, If it is for me only or for others I don't know.

    The error looks like:

If I try to set so that the memorys will work with a divider (eg. NOT [AUTO]) then everything is OK.
If I try to set the timings to any value (that my memory would work at) (eg. NOT [AUTO]) then everything is OK.

But I CAN NOT set both the timings AND divider to [MANUAL] at the same time. It does not matter if I
set one and then save/reboot and then set the other. They can not co-exist!
If I do so I will get the "endless reboot" AKA "Double Post" and the BIOS reverts back to default.

The conclusion is that I can not use settings like 400x9 and memory at 1:1 because then I would
be forced to use the SPD timings and running DDR-800 with 5-5-5-18 is not a blast when you have memorys good for 800 @ 3-3-3-8

So... what to do? You set the memory in a propriete divider (2:3) and let the timings be set to [AUTO].
Then you up the FSB until you hit a very high roof of the memory. I mean, if you are gonna run high you
would expect to en up with 5-5-5-18 anyway.

In my case I have reached this far......

    http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=219319

As you see I'm aware of the FSB strap at 417 so I stayed under that, with 1 MHz to spare

And since everyting is rock stable I bet I have more to add...

    *** EDIT ***

Can you tell me what the ratio is supposed to be? CPU-Z keeps reporting my frequency at 533Mhz even though my ram is set to SPD, and it reports 800 in the BIOS. CPU-Z says my FSB to Dram ratio is 1:2. Shouldn't it be 2:3? Where do I set that?

    Thanks for your advice.

With E6600 at default (9x266) set it too 3.00 (266/2*3=400mhz) If you set FSB to 400 for example its 2.00 (1/1) and so on.

Thanks for the suggestions, it's definitely the higher overclocks that are causing the S3 Standby issues. It's really annoying as I got my E4300 to about 3.4GHz 24hr Orthos stable.

I have found that 3.1GHz (345x9.0) seems to be the sweet spot for my setup and S3 Standby works perfectly in Vista. It's a great feature, can power on & off the PC to Windows in a few seconds and only consumes about the same wattage in standby as when the computer has been shutdown.

    Yup, that worked.

So why does SPD settings set it to 533Mhz? or 1:2?

    I have created a BIOS-Template for the P35-DQ6.
I had one for my previous DFI motherboard and it a very good tool
to understand, remember and share you tweaks and settings in BIOS.

FSB to bandwidth on the DS4:

    380FSB 5920/5931
    390FSB 6071/6099
    400FSB 6218/ 6249
    410FSB
    420FSB 6492/6519
    430FSB
    440FSB 6792/6825
    450FSB
    460FSB 7117/7133
    470FSB
    480FSB RAM goes weird... 43/43
    490FSB
    500FSB 353/354

The tests were ran using SiSoft SANDRA and RAM was 1:1 to FSB. Timings were nothing special, just to make sure I didnt run out of space or need to jack up the voltage.

    BIOS is F5F.

Can someone in the know confirm or deny that the strap is based on the FSB: RAM Multiplier, not the FSB?

Not to sure havent figured the strap with divider out. Some strange things i have noticed though. All 1/1.

From 347 to 348 FSB bandwidth and spi are lower & latency higher (same as strap change on 965 for example):

    347FSB

    348FSB

From 415 to 420 FSB superpi does get slower however bandwith and latency dont change much...

    415FSB

    420FSB

    Tested these on P35C, multi>FSB>latency>BW

    9x300: 83.9 - 5913

So to sum it up.. on F3b BIOS at least, theres a strap change at say 340FSB, which makes the 3410-380FSB region a dead zone, apart from that, theres only multiplier changes to worry about.

Thanks for the info Bart! I didnt test as low as 350FSB..
