Ok, the cracked ATI Tool executable that rAF supplied allows us to OC the memory, or to adjust the timings? I have never adjusted the memory timings on a card before, so if I must learn, could someone link some literature on this subject? Thanks a bunch!

Well, I havent tried the change of timings with ATI, but a lot with Nibitor (Nvidia).

About the MAX OC, your core seems well, but memory a little bit low Spacehead.

Sure, youre CPU limited (as me), but well, youve got good scores for your AMD 3500+

Hey Kain, you know of a timings adjustment guide?
Well I tried the patched ATI Tool, and when I adjused the memory timings on my card, I got a black screen, but no crash. I could still reboot my PC by blindly using the keyboard LOL. Anyone had success with overclocking the memory, and if so how?

All right, so no Vgpu mod before I get a good clocking Opteron 170(no money yet for C2D) I'll try to up the mem up a bit, my anyway it doesn't change my scores much.

ATI Tool can't change the mem without BSOD...You'll have to do it another way...I use CCC

Yeah man, this is why I said to heck with it. Anyway, here's something quick. I'm waiting on the hold down plate for the MCW60, a better mobo so I can bench around 3.9GHz~3.96Ghz. And I'm still learning how to tweak nVidia drivers since I've been with ATi (AMD) for the past two years. Anyway I guess my mem is pretty good. I'll switch back to ATi eventually.

Well, I use ATI Tray Tools and havent had any problems.
My memory is completely naked.

Just sometimes when I try to underclock (lets say, to go back to default clocks) I get a black screen, but it happens 1/10 times I try it. So, Im ok like this.

trans am, DAK1640 well i notified this lockups too. atitool/ati tray tool. gpu frequency changing is ok. but memory frequency - lockups with black screen. so i managed that rivatuner (newest version) can do this for us

1. in "low-level system settings\more\disable _all_ options of clock frequency generation settings".
2. go to "graphics subsystem diagnostic report" and look for "ATI specific display adapter information" (also you can enable BIOS information because they can be different). there is: Memory clock=702.000MHz and Reference clock=27.000MHz.
3. now go to "low-level system settings" again and you can change gpu clock as you wish but changing memory clock dosn't lockup system if you increase it by 27MHZ step e.g. by reference clock. so on my board i have:
702, 729, 756, 783, 810, 837, 864, 891... and so on. if i trying something other i have lockups too. so you can try to bypass lockups by the way i described.

binormalkilla about timings: here is sheet of default timings on my asus 1950pro (1st column); minimal that worked well (2nd column) and optimal (i believe ) (3rd column). i have noticed about 2.5% performance increase in 3Dmark06 (SM2/SM3 tests). you can try something in that way.

All i have already wrote that CCC+ATI_hotkey_poller_service and WINCLK can change memory freq but they changing memory timings too! so after "overclocking" by this way you'll get a performance drop instead of up

I have noticed that the Gigabyte and Diamond cards do not have the reference digital vrm setup. Does anyone have either of these and can comment?

ATI Tray Tools is working for me for memory OCing, I have reached 642/750 so far stable.
I am using the latest ATI Tray Tools beta, with driver level overclocking and ATI Hotkey Poller service enabled. I have read that disabling this will keep your card at 2d clocks. I have had no issues yet with my above overclock.
BTW, thanks for the timings gAF, and I was wondering if anyone knows of a place where I can read in depth about video memory timings so that I may fully understand it.....BTW if I am reading correctly, your default timings are different than mine.

Thanks again for the cracked ATI Tool file, make sure that you show Wizzard on the tech power up forums!

hmm the big question is will it work? The bigger question is will it work in crossfire?

nope 1st card will oc just fine but If I change the memclocks on 2nd card it drops back to 702 after 'test' and 'apply' ANy ideas?

I repeated the same steps after selecting the 2nd card too.

I can't change 'modify clock frequency generation accuracy settings'

trans am it's ok. you need disable "clock testing" afaik this is driver-level stability test so it's able to reset frequency. go in "Power user tab"->"RivaTuner\Overclocking\Global\DisableClockTest " set to "1".

I just tried it but now I can't even change gpu clock on 2nd card. when I oc the gpu core and hit apply it goes right back to stock. same with mem.

heres a screen of ati overclocking in power user menu

Does anyone know where I could find the default memory timings with my card, as mine are different from gAF's posted timings.
I have the data sheet for my memory chips, and they have some timing info on it, but I don't think it's everything. It will take some time to read all of it, as it is around20 or so pages.

++

I think if you use the ati tool patch and click mem in the main oc window (the one with the sliders) (next to settings) this will pull up your default timings for your card. use the optimal timings as a reference.

Okay so if we were to make a final "total morons" guide to overclocking 2 x1950 pro cards in crossfire would it go like this?

dl riva tuner
dl ati tool 26
dl ati tool patch

go to control panel\administrative tools\services\ati hotkey poller\properties\startup(disable)

patch ati tool .exe

open ati tool
---------------------------
select which bus your card is on (if you have more than 1 card /crossfire)
create a profile with the default clock speeds (I named mine 'mem')
go to the oc screen in ati tool with the sliders and click mem (this will show your cards default timings)
change the timings
save the timings under the profile you created earlier
go back and select the 2nd card you want to change
click mem again in the sliders window
select the profile you created earlier and hit apply

open riva tuner
-----------------
under power user select RIva tuner \overclocking\ ati
enable driverlevel 3dclock control (+1)
(adjust fans to 100%)

go to main tab\customize\graphics subsystem diagnostic report\
ati specific display adapter information (this will show you the increments on how you will adjust your memory clocks) $ffffffffff ATI specific display adapter information
----------------------------------------------------------------
$0900000000 Graphics core : RV570 (12tmu)
$0900000002 Memory bus : 256-bit
$0900000001 Memory type : DDR3 SGRAM
$0900000003 Memory amount : 256MB
$0900000004 Core clock : 580.500MHz
$0900000005 Memory clock : 702.000MHz (1404.000MHz effective)
$0900000006 Reference clock : 27.000MHz

(mine is 27)

OVERCLOCK THE CARDS
------------------------

go to main tab\customize\low-level system settings (this is where you overclock the cards)
oc your core clock (you should know what your gpu core can handle by now) I set mine to 654

next overclocking the mem (this is the tricky part)

increase it by 27MHZ step e.g. by reference clock. so on my board i have:
702(default) then +27=729 etc. etc. just keep adding 27 or you can also move slider to 783 right from the start providing that your mem can handle it.
729, 756, 783, 810, 837, 864, 891... and so on.

next select the 2nd card and repeat the overclock.

Its best to run each card separately at first so you know what your cards max out at.

one of my cards does 654/837 and the other does 641/756 (just remember which pci bus your cards are on. I put the better card in the top x16 slot and the crap card on the bottom slot.

hope this helps. Thanks to everyone for contributing.
