Question replacing missing pins on A 939 opty, would P4 pins work

I was just wondering would the pins of a P4 fit an work with a 939 opteron?

I have a 936 pin opty at home and would like to make it functional again. But its hard to get either a 754 or 939 fried CPU, a P4 8 socket 423 or 478) would be easyer to obtain but the question is would it fit.

Just take one of the NC pins and use that.

Those that are just there to keep it in the socket, aka Not Connected.

odds are you have only pulled NC pins and the cpu may still work, check out this data sheet and see what pins you have pulled.

how do you replace broken pins? One of my friends has a s754 3000+ with a missing pin (an important one as it doesn't function without it, it is near the one corner).

You can just stick any kind of small wire in the hole on the socket so it will just come out, as long as it makes contact with the place the pin broke off it will be fine.

if its a data pin yeah, but if its a voltage pin you make burn out the socket if the wire cant handle the load

Are you positive about this? I have this feeling that the properties of the metal used would make a difference.

well you get a pin from a 754 cpu and solder it on, Of course your soldering skills must be good and you should have tweezers.

I gave mine to a buddy which solderd them on but unfortunatley he testet the cpu twice and i pulled it once out of the socket an the stuck in the socket, I used a needle which i dipped in some quick drying glue and pulled it out.

Erm, would your friend be willing to sell the cpu?

CPU doesn't work, the mobo won't recognise it.

it's the pins on the bottom side of the socket ( the part facing the first PCI-e slot) in the middle. see attached pic ( yes I know it's crappy but my cell has only a VGA camera and it's not made for such small things)

either I'm stupid ( which could be an option) or I don't understand this diagram and can't find a match with the cpu.

Copper pin = copper wire. Nothing will know the difference.

measure the length of the pin needing to be replaced, then find an old PCI/ISA card and pull a pin off it and cut it to size and solder it on

or you could put it in the socket ?
