To match 18AWG, the wire's cross sectional area should be 0.823mm^2 so the 0.75 would have been the best option to match it.

A search on some random webpage for some generic 0.5mm^2 cable says it's rated to 11A.

According to a search, 6 pin PCI-E connectors are rated for up to 75Watts and have three conductors for each polarity. 75 / 12 / 3 ~= 2A so even the smaller wire should be far more than what's needed.
