Look at the GTX 480 as it is today, and compare it's PPP with the competing GPU (5870). It makes it much easier to judge it, why go back in time to dismiss something that is right in front of your eyes?
It's learnt from history that a delay usually means a failure. The reality today is that even a pair of 5870 can heat up my room at least 5C in the summer. I wouldn't be able to imagine the heating ability of a pair of 480 in a room without air conditioner, over the summer when ATI Southern Islands are not yet available. The only point for me to buy 480 is perhaps to benchmark tessellation before DX11 games come out.
