Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

what the heck, a hd 5970 is just two 5870 slapped together therefore subjected to any weakness inherent to sli/crossfire so what is wrong with 2x 460 GTX sli (if your motherboard supports sli) that offer the same performance, but if you have plenty money though whichever floats your boat is fine i guess, for others though the 100 quid difference could afford another improvement to your system such as an intel SSD or better sound card
Core i7 8700k @ 5.1Ghz * Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 5 * 4x8GB Corsair RGB @ 3600 16-18-18-36 * GTX 1080ti @ 2050/11400 * Plextor M8Pe 512GB * Creative Sound Blaster Z * Audioengine 5+ * Corsair Obsidian 750D * Corsair RM1000 watt
FPS is king. You go look at a 5970 review where they OC it then compare it to your precious 460s your trying desperately hard to defend. Raw numbers speak volumes, the 460s are good performers at their price, but a 5970 they are not.

i guess some of you guys are right the 460's did lead to price drops.....on the 470's lol
299-330 will get you one now before the weekend they were $330-350.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127501
only if the 480's would lower to around $430 or so.
*edit checking the 480 prices they are dropping too!!
$460ish before $20 mir(alot of brands)
looks like nv has tightened up the $200ish and $300ish market.

I think there is also the issue of comparing graphics CARDS, not # of GPUs. I know a ton of people will jump on this so-called logical fallacy, but I see nothing wrong with comparing the performance of a graphics card that fits into ONE PCI-E slot. This is why the 5970 is still the best graphics CARD.
E7200 @ 3.4 ; 7870 GHz 2 GB
Intel's atom is a terrible chip.
well I own neither of the card so i'm not defending anything, just stating my opinion, and don't assume that i'm a fanboy just because you are.
if you are talking about oc performance then 2x460gtx 1GB oced would still match hd 5970 oced. of course the 5970 is skill the king of single card but as an perf/price solution it is not.
Core i7 8700k @ 5.1Ghz * Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 5 * 4x8GB Corsair RGB @ 3600 16-18-18-36 * GTX 1080ti @ 2050/11400 * Plextor M8Pe 512GB * Creative Sound Blaster Z * Audioengine 5+ * Corsair Obsidian 750D * Corsair RM1000 watt
And i see nothing better than a videocard that fit in every case. 5970 don't fit or barely fit in many cases.I think there is also the issue of comparing graphics CARDS, not # of GPUs. I know a ton of people will jump

And for 250$ you can buy a good case, a good cooler, a good Psu and may be even a HDD.
You people don't learn anything from the economic crysis, why to spend so much more money for almost nothing more ?
( two Palit Platinium at 800/1600/4000 are i think equal to 5970 ).
More to this Nvidia will launch dual GF 104 card in this summer so buying now a 5970 is like throwing to garbage 250$.
Also 2 GTX 460 are easy to sell everytime you want, one by time, 5970 is more expensive is harder to sell again.
From two GTX 460 will be more easy to upgrade in the future.
And look at this, GTX 460's can do 950 core, 4600memory> with a little voltage posiible to done on the majority of GTX 460s.

Impressive picture Xdan, I'll be happy as a pig if I can get my 1GB SLI GTX 460 setup to run at those speeds.
your right, thats why im happy with my 4850 xfire, less than 200$ and i play every game i own at 1920x1200, high details, 16xAF and 2-4xAA
no point upgrading, dx11 only applies to a few titles sofar and not worth getting new hardware for.
however, what about 5850xfire vs 460sli? both OCed using stock cooling should provide very similar price/perf ratios
hmmmm still not sure my 465 or 460 is the real price/performance king. need to team them up for F@H after summer and compare![]()

Also Gigabyte it's not better than reference. Reference cooler is very good, so you can buy without any regrets reference cards.
Now, Gigabyte GTX 460OC 1gb, custom cooler.

Was there any info on the galaxy being any better or worse with its custom cooler? Thanks again for reposting those shots.
Your not fooling anyone. Your just trying to crap on this launch as much as possible. The press is almost universally praising the release of this card. No one needs to defend their purchase of a gtx 460 because the press has already done so. Alot of reputable websites are saying the exact same thing in that SLI performance of the gtx 460 is impressive.
Additionally, not having to buy a displayport capable monitor or buy a 100 dollar active displayport to dvi converter to use 3 monitor gaming(which I personally am not a fan of really). As also mentioned, the 5970 is the longest graphics card ever. There are alot of cases that it does not fit.
I don't think your fooling anyone changing your sig, I am pretty much everyone that have seen your posts knew you had 5830 in xfire in your sig prior to the release of the gtx 460. You sound really really bitter honestly.
Its no doubt that the 5970 is the fastest graphics card that takes up one slot, for certain people that don't have a SLI capable MB, this means alot. But for people that do have boards capable of SLI, gtx 460 in SLI provides much better bang for the buck.

That's not true at all. The 460 is the value leader of the Fermi line in performance per dollar and it also runs WAY more thermally efficient than the 470, which by comparison is about the worst at thermal efficiency, running over 10c hotter than it's ATI counterpart the 5850.
It should be an obvious clue that two 460s beating a 480 at $100 less is quite a value.
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Z...0_1_GB/33.html
Add OCing to the equation and it's a no brainer. The 460 leads the Fermi line in value AND thermal efficiency. Reviewers are commonly hitting 850MHz+ core speed without even raising the paltry 40% fan speed or core voltage.

Wonder if we'll see 1ghz cores with a little added voltage + fan speed in software.
Doubtful, I think the mounting holes are different but not sure.
Anyone see anything on this? HardOCP claims it's a lot louder than their reference GTX460 which has me concerned.
Does MSI Afterburner 1.6.1 work for voltage adjustment on the PALIT non-reference GTX 460 1GB cards?
Last edited by GoldenTiger; 07-13-2010 at 08:28 PM.
It works on Gainward GTX 460 1GB GLH wich have same shorther PCB, cage cooler is a little diferent as Palit GTX 460 1GB SONIC & PLATINIUM.
It's annoyng that reviewers don't put pictures with the GPU voltage controller of every card( lab501 team do that).
From what is known all GTX 460 cards use as controller of GPU voltage NCP5388 fabricated by ON Semiconductor ,
used also on GTX 470, GTX 480 and GTX 465 cards on wich voltage adjustment worked even on custom pcb cards from Palit/Gainward/Galaxy.
So, relax voltage adjustment work 99% sure on every GTX 460.
But not be so entuziast there are raports than at 1.1v the GPU VRM enters in protection(or the GPU itself?) and lower the frecuency and voltage.
For more than 1.1v(max alowed by Msi Afterburner) you need to do an hardware mod.
But is is possible that 1.08v to be enough to reach 1000Mhz. Heat isn't a problem with fan at 70% on reference you will not reach more than 75-78C
The question is how good the GF 104 scales with voltage.
Also a picture of Gigabyte GTX 460OC cutom VRM, may be better than reference?
