    I'm running a PII 945 on an MSI K9A2 Plat as well. I'm not sure if I'd consider throwing a 6 core on it or just moving to an AM3 board at this point. I think I'm running bios 1.8.
    You must [not] advance.

    Good idea for a post. I'm waiting for ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe support. I'll get a 1090T as soon as I get a BIOS for it .

    Do you think the mobo manufacturers will update AM2+ mobos to support Thuban processors? I certainly hope so, but maybe they won't, forcing people to upgrade mobos as well.

    it would be nice to see Thuban support on am2+ boards. the max my board supports is 125tbp which should be more than enough for the x6 coming out.

    i know my little asus M4N68T-M has 6cpu support ( to 125w ) ( bios 0703 and later )

    is thuban supposed to be released in am2+ format? cuz am3 and am2+ aren't backwards compatible.

    Asus support below:
    Noticeable boards missing:
    M3N-HT (once flagship 780a board)
    M3A79-T Deluxe (once flagship AM2+)

    Here we go again Asus..

    Biostar:
    No existing AM3 bios updates yet. (waiting for 790GX A3+)

    All of these are WCG crunchers for me.

    I'll be ultra pissed if ASUS skips over my M3A79-T Deluxe! This is giving me a bad feeling in my stomach. Please come through ASUS.

    Wouldn't put it past them. The old M2N-SLI Deluxe was an AM2 board that did not get updates for Phenom IIs yet they work just fine. I don't think however that we are going to see the same luck going from 4 -> 6 cores.

    Asus has a history of crapping on their customers.

    AM3 is indeed backwards compatible with AM2+. I have a Phenom II X2 550 its a AM3 cpu in a AM2+ board, it works in my old M3A32-MVP which was AM2+.

    AM2+ = DDR2
    AM3 = DDR3

    and Thuban will support both DDR2 and DDR3

    He meant that AM3 CPUs will work on AM2+ boards because AM3 chips have a DDR2 and DDR3 memory controller.

    AM2+ CPUs won't work on AM3 boards because AM2+ chips only have a DDR2 memory controller.

    AM3 = DDR2/DDR3
    AM2+ = DDR2 only.
