It's the Dynatron P12G, I got it new for about £8 (35 PLN) on ebay which also included a tube of arctic silver thermal paste.
It's machined solid copper and rated up to 3.6Ghz.
Isn't it the one you've previously used?

Yeah it's hard to find outside of the UK it comes up on UK ebay every now and again, but there's no supplier that I've found in the UK which is why I purchased through ebay.
You can get it from the US for $40 including shipping which isn't bad.
But the P12G fits perfectly on the board, I had fears that it would be a tight fit on such a small board but all was good.
I am confident the heatsink could manage to cool my CPU passively but I've got quite a bit of heat generating components in the case so I haven't bothered especially as the fan running at 2500rpm is completely silent (to the human ear at least) from around 150mm above it.
I'm trying to find another now for my next project.

What if I wanted an Atom/VIA/etc caseless setup I could mount in an external 5.25" bay just for skype, IMing, Internet surfing (nothing heavy, email and other habitually-checked things), file server, always-on computer?
Without getting into details specific to my setup and hijacking this thread, what processor (didn't VIA come out with something recently?) and motherboard would you recommend?
Pretty sure only pico-itx or nano-itx would fit, and the orientation might require connectors coming out the side. Hopefully that wouldn't prevent a completely connected system from still fitting inside a 5.25 bay. I think it would be cool you mounted a slim DVD drive underneath (maybe replacing the top slimline in this dual slimDVD drivebay with the motherboard) or have an Aquaero as the front and the motherboard filling the rest of the 5.25 bay.
One note on my specific setup, I would have approximately 30cm height above my topmost external 5.25 bay for motherboard heatsinks and the case top panel for fan exaust/intake mounting. ALthough it would be nice for the setup to be portable to any 5.25 bay.
Edit: I also can't remember, for the life of me, a site that had a lot of great pico-ITX mobos and accessories/add-ons. Anyone?
With that kind of size limitations, only Nano and Pico-ITX motherboards can fit, so you're stuck with VIA motherboard+CPU combos, since AFAIK VIA is the only manufacturer to sell such small-sized motherboards.
As far as height goes, though, you might want to double-check. The lowest-rising motherboard I can think of is the Mini-ITX Intel Atom N270 board, which at 2cm high still makes the 5.25'' bay height dimention a VERY tight fit for a motherboard+Slim ODD. I honestly don't think you have the clearance to do it, even with a very low profile motherboard (btw, AFAIK the Pico-ITX has a daughterboard, which raises its height).
If you can, I suggest you go for a DIN format (that's the standard unit size of car stereos). Carputer fanatics have already managed to cram low profile memory, DC-DC converters, slim ODDs and 2.5'' HDDs into that kind of space at least three years ago, so with that Intel N270-based mobo (which doesn't even need a DC-DC converter) you should be OK, as long as you don't watch HD content over 720p on regular files, and even lower resolution if you're considering Flash-based content.
If you are adamant on the 5.25'' size, then this seems a better idea, you'll probably have more space to fiddle with (though check for availability of mounting holes on the enclosure). You might want to consider Matrix Orbital as well as the front end. A VFD is always cool
I'd suggest redirecting all ports to the backside, it should be a cleaner-looking setup that way. And if you build it keeping inside 5.25'' size (and not the enclosure size, which is usually slightly bigger), then you might even be able to fit the whole thing to a standard 5.25'' drive bay and redirect the ports to the backside of the CPU unit, though either WC tubing holes or the expansion slots cover area (*hint* *hint*![]()
)
There are several I know of. LinITX, Mini-ITX.com, mini-box.com are the ones on the top of my head. If you google "carputer" you are bound to come across some more.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

Wow Duiek. They are amazing what your doing there
I read once about a motherboard that had an atom based computer built into the regular motherboard. This would do exactly what you're wanting, with no need to build anything.
Now that you mention it, you're right. I remember it, too.
It's not available yet, AFAIK. I saw the prototype on Youtube back in September, I believe.
The board comes from DFI, and has a very complex switching mechanism built in (basically, it has an embedded KVM switch where you can control which audio stream to output), and as a big plus, it's ION-based, meaning less power draw and more video capabilities.
The only drawback at this point it it doesn't support anything other than LGA775 CPUs, and CrossFire is out of the question because of the board layout.
Ok, there you go, I believe that's the article.
Cheers.

if you want 5,25" system - go to ARTIGO PC - its 2/3 of optical DRIVE size and fit to 5,25" bay perfectly - (retail price is high but used once is selling about on half price and its good for internet surfing but no possible to see HD movies even 720p with low bitrate ;(

Thanks for the info!
Sounds like VIA technologies is the only place for a computer sized to fit inside a 5.25 bay, using either their picoITX or nanoITX form factors. I really like the Artigo Builder Kit that comes with a PX10000 board and C7 1 Ghz CPU. Where do you buy the Wireless Kit Package and the SATA Accessory Kit Package though? If I don't want to hassle with modding a drivebay, it seems the best deal by far. Still like the idea of modding the dual slimline drivebay though. I could throw in a NX15000G NanoITX board & 1.5 Ghz C 7 CPU with the extra depth left over.
P.S. Found the other site I was looking for: LogicSupply.

DAMN, that is a HUGE difference...
Now, the really interesting thing is, if general software were to be TRULY SMP anc cluster-aware, you might be able to stack enough of those mini boxes into the size of the bigger box and have MUCH more computing power (with probably lower power consumption) than you'll EVER be able to fit on the big box itself...
Of course, I'm not counting the single-to-octal GPU options you might get when using the big box, 4xHD5970 is a beast in and of itself on parallel computing (for some things), but still... wicked!
Cheers.

Duniek, you ever use Clay Power PSUs? They also get distributed under iStarUSA. I really like the CP-56030 model, but can't find it anywhere. They have the CP-10035 model at NewEgg. Their Multi-Output Open Frame Series and some of their shorter 1U PSUs seem a really good combination of size and power.
Duniek, beautiful work! congratulations
SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH!
Thanks for the. I'm pretty new with this PSU stuff, but would a high-quality DC-DC converter board be able to power a picoITX/nanoITX board, Aquaero w/ Powerboost, and watercooling pump/fans? I'm not sure if DC-DC converter board come with enough connectors to do this, but wouldn't it just need the power connectors for the mobo and then the molex to the Aquaero?
It'd be awesome if I could fit a picoITX/nanoITX, Aquaero, and the DC-DC converter board all in a drive bay (like the Artigo, but better)!
Anyway, I'll finish jacking your thread. Hopefully other people benefit from this.
