You're not reading very carefully, and havn't been following AMD very closely. Hector decided it's "not about core anymore", "Moore's law is dead", "competing with multicore is a mistake", etc. He harped on this long and hard and the other AMD heads were parroting his talking points, along with plenty of powerpoint presentations, at developer & investor meetings, interviews, etc. He directed AMD on this path of not devoloping cpus anymore. Slight problem, he was wrong(enter Intel's core and two year cycle of improving the thing Hector & friends had been preaching about not improving anymore.) There's also the matter of the timing of buying ATI, how much they payed for it(they over payed), selling off the profitable flash business, others selloffs, layoffs of particular employees, the selloffs and layoffs done for the purpose of bolstering his bad moves so that things still look profitable or not as bad on paper.

Hogwash, she's crap. HP is just one of the companies that turned to ash from her touch.

    Haha, ing finally.

It's completely asinine how one person, the CEO, can strip a company from what it once was. K8 and a top place in the market turns to struggling R&D and only low prices to compete. It's a shame, it's a damn shame. I don't see how AMD can come back within a few years unless they REALLY turn it around...my Opteron box might be worth something for nostalgia reasons...

At least Ruiz had the balls to do what was right and put and end to the monopoly abuse, and rightly bring a lawsuit against the responsible party. Had it not been for that action, I strongly believe AMD would have nowhere near the market penetration it has now. Have a look at how many motherboards are launching with Phenom. Now look back a few years and have a gander at how many launched with K8. Hector made the right moves with AMD to stay not only competitive, but in business.

Then again, maybe that's the root of all the finger pointing. After all, North of 10,000 people had to seek alternate employment because of the drive for a fair market, surely many of them hang on forums such as these. Cuz surely all the haters don't expect people to believe that they have the knowledge to even access what moves a CEO of multi-billion dollor coorportation should make. Smells like part of an ongoing propoganda campaign to me (or anti-propoganda, depending on how one looks at it).

HP was dying, and will die if she did not initiate the painful process of acquiring compaq.

Which is it? Already dieing or mismatch with her estrogen? And the companies before HP in which the same fate befell them? They were also already dieing/estrogen problems? Yeah, it's everyone else, not her..

I bet if Hector does leave on Monday the stock is going to go up nicely.

how about loading the company heavily on debt just before the onset of a price war? 1/2 of gross profits go straight to interest payments. how is that not a screw up?

well the way i see it a semiconductor company has to make inredibly huge investments to keep there products competitive. and if you have competition like intel with way more resources for research and markteting these investments may very well exceed your profits.

i mean with the first athlon amd has had a better product at lower prices for years but they were still making losses.

why did they put Ruiz (might not be a coincident that it's close to ruin) in charge anyway? and why does he get such a big salary?

it's always that way. some stupid managers ruin companies, leave, get a load of money up their ass and get a job at another company.

and the only ones who have to pay for that are the employees (and the customers of course)

there are even insurances that cover management mistakes...

what has to happen until they change this? when will they finally be paid based on the companies success?

And for chock full of gems, look up AMD Analyst Day 2006, Dec 14, 2006.

Ruiz was Jerry's right hand man, but now we've found out Ruiz has blown it all up. Ruiz had the perfect opportunity to take advantage of AMD's huge performance advantage over Intel, but all he did was sit on his ass. The Intel discounts did have something to do with it (Dell admitted to it) for market share, but AMD could have opened up business with HP a lot earlier, thus improving market share. They could have started marketing like they SHOULD have, but I guess Hector thought it wasn't worth it.

If you liken AMD to the Titanic, Hector is the iceberg.
