Nicks , when you have time , could you put up the 2900 Series Heatsink Removal Guide on your website nickfire.com ? That is if you took pics during your own removal of course

Your temps look quite awesome to me . Are you still running the thermalright cooler , or did you mount the standard cooler again .

Ok is that where Overdrive itself tops out, or just for your card? You can go higher with other utils? Guess I'm just wondering if there is some advantage or better results somehow using Overdrive, tho my hunch says no. If there is I'd buy the 6 to 8 adapter or do the mod.

I have idea what's this 'grafik' about but first thing I can think of is a CPU-bounded system... :P

As you can see the 512bit bus is not really effective, and on high memory speeds you cant see performance improve.
High memory speed by itself doesn't mean jack, I agree.
However when you need bandwidth (strong pp e.g. AA) then it is very beneficial.

An 256bit bus will probably about the same performance as the 512bit bus, but will be much cheaper to produce.
The bus most certainly won't be - the card, altogether, could be.
However if RV670 turns out to ba a simple lower process respin of the current R600 and you take a look at these great 2900 Pro OC results here then I cannot really imagine any HC gamer to opt for the card with half or 2/3rd of the bandwidth for the same price...

If the final specs of the 2950 will be 825core, 2400mhz mem, then i'm sure the 2950 will be more powerfull.
Errr how so? If it's indeed the final spec then I'm sure it isn't more powerful - see these 860/2000-2100MHz results? If the upcoming card is the same except a 200-400MHz higher clocked but half-wide membus then how would be more powerful?

What I'm trying to say is that we don't know anything about the GPU and that's the key here.
Of course, halved databus doesn't help, that's for sure.

    crossfire oc

i tried overclocking my cards like shown in the link on NickS page. it didnīt really work... fps in 3dmark06 were lower than without ocing thru amd gpu clocktool.
now iīve got the "problem" that i have to use the other dvi port on my cards, itīs like they switched, when i enabled and disabled the secondary display and extended my desktop to it. is there a way to get back to the standard dvi port (the one outside, farther away from the mobo)?

ok... I fixed it... stupid problem. It's because i didn't have enough power. i was only using 1 6pin on each card. so now i'm using a 6+6 plugs on each card. These seems like more realistic numbers.

    Pro flashed to XT X-fire:

So with simple words , at this time theres no software to control the voltages on hd2XXX cards via software . ?

Sry, I was a bit quick on that one. After setting VDDC in Atitool it will stick when lauching a 3D app (at least 3DMark). It will not stick if you try to alter the core-clock via Atitool.

So the way to go is to set VDDC in Atitool and clock with another software.
Or, set coreclock first in Atitoll and then alter VDDC.

btw, I did try Powerstrip, somtimes it worked, somtimes it didn't.

Best way is to set first the memory speed with ATITOOL, then set the Volts.
Next step is to start AMDGPUclocktool and raise the clockspeed.
But my experience is that using ATITOOL and AMDGPUclocktool together is not always stable. Sometimes its stable to use, and sometimes i get a reboot.
We only can wait for ATITOOL 27B3 for some pwnage action.

Other than running xfire, is there any benefit from flashing up to xt? I'm currently running 831/996 and temps average 77c under full load and has max peaks at 80c.

this wont work for me and other guys...

we got a freeze with blue, green or black screens!

Best way is a vmod or set first gpu & mem clock and than the voltage (all with atitool).

How can you tell your PSU isn't up to the job?

As I have a OCZ 520w Modstream with 28A on the 12v rail, so it's a little under spec even running XT speeds.

But it does run at XT speeds fine, but when I take to say 810/950 it runs for a while, NO atrifacts, but the PC will just hard lock with not a sign of an artifact.

Is this just a poor R600, or lack of amps?

It could be you're PSU. My CM realpower 550watt couldn't handle R600 :P.
My 12 rail collapsed to 11.6v when i had the R600 connected. Best way is to measure the 12v rails under full load with a DMM.
I bought a Fortron Booster X3 300watt VGA PSU, they are good and cheap, only 15 euro It handle's R600 with no problem.

Well after I've got my Antec P182, I'll be getting a Corsair 620W jobby. That comes with one of those 8 pin PCI-E plugs. So I guess I'll see then.

My 2900pro is on the way. I've heard conflicting reports about its power requirements.

Does anyone have an OCZ PowerStream 520 or something similar? It does 33a on the 12v.

I've had this baby for 2.5 years now. I am hoping it will be enough!

I did the bios thing and it went verry smooth I thank everyone for the instructions

    A few questions thou,

when i fist used the ATI HD2900XT.bin version, GPU-Z showed that default GPU 743 and VRAM 823,but rigth above it the readings were 505/511.

Same info under AMD GPU Tool.2D and 3D clock speeds. I gues its normal

so i tried the Sapphire HD2900XT.bin(newer version than the first one) reinstalled CCC 7.10 and now i've got 743/823 on both, current and default. BTW, with the first bios, altough it said that the default clock was set to 743/823 when i played with the settings under AMD GPU, everest reported that i had actually OC the card

Also, ATItool did not launch at all. But as stated above, once flashed with Sapphire XT, everything seems to be normal now. Or am i just kidding myself

3D mark scores before and after the flash didnt change at all(with the first bios)i coulndt get a score over 7000,stuck at 6980. I know that the overall performance of the PC effects the result, but still it should've done something. Now i can only get around 7080. Oh and befor i forget, i cant seem to get ATI overdrive to appear under CCC. I'm assuming it's cause of the 6+6 pin connectors, but i made one my self last night and still no overdrive.Any suggestions for this, other than buying a new PS?

    System specs:
Intel Pentium D930 3.0 no OC
    Asus P5K-SE
    Corsair XMS2 4-4-4-12 2T 677mhz
    Sapphire 2900pro@XT
    Silver power 480W ps

Now, how could i improve my 3D mark 06 scores?

I've been reading this thread for 2 days and my account just got activated. Hello to all of you i am a newbie(just to this form, not to this world)

Hello all, new to the forums here. And this thread is what made me make my final decision on what to buy.

It looks as if its now a deactivated item on Newegg. I know they had got a few in on Tues, which is when I ordered my HIS one and had it 2nd day.

My question would be dealing with the 3DMark scores people are showing. I've just recently upgraded my system after getting some OT in at work and stashing money away so the woman didn't see it.

    What I've purchased was:

    AMD 6400+ Black Edition
    2GB Patriot PC2-6400 4-4-4-12 Mem Kit
ECS GeForce6100SM-M Board (I know, but it was bundled with the CPU and couldn't afford much more after)
    HIS 2900Pro 512mb
630watt RaidMax Volcano PSU (has two 6pin's and 8pin but I guess the 8pin is for EPS)

I've got a new Vista OS installed and only scored around 9600. The Vid is OC'd to 740/2000 (effective). The CPU test is where the system REALLY bogged down during the benchmarking.

I've a feeling alot of it has to deal with the mobo itself and others, settings I've not made or tweaked as of yet, both bios and OS.

What I'd like to know is there any really good guides on making adjustments? Doing searches gives you so many different opinions, it actually gets confusing.

    Thanks.

I found an easier way to OC in crossfire mode, if you run dual monitors. I have one monitor hooked up to the primary card, and the second monitor hooked up to the secondary card.

    Disable crossfire.
Go into display settings and extend desktop to the 2nd monitor.
Launch rivatuner or whatever apps you use to OC. (I have only tried rivatuner)
Select your cards, and overclock them. Shouldn't matter which card you choose first.
Then enable crossfire. (this will disable the second monitor)

This still may work if you have one monitor. But you'll have to extend it to the second card. (haven’t tried)

I think i've reached about max potential with my mobo/psu. I was able to overclock in xfire mode to 820/970. Any higher and I got mixed results, I either couldn't enable crossfire mode, or the machine would crash/reboot.

So I hooked up a spare psu laying around. I hooked them up to the 6pin plug. I didn't get much better oc's as I still suspect the power supply still isn't enough. I was able to get to 829/990 with the extra psu.

I also was unable to overclock in xfire mode in Vista. but was fine in XP.

at 829/990 I was only able to score ~16110. This is where I think the p5b and a c2d reaches it limits. At stock XT speeds, I got 15131. With a 78mhz oc on the core and 142mhz on the memory, I got about 1000 points more. With the x4 pci-e handicap, I should be happy with these results that it was able to even scale this high. Not as high as I wanted, but that’s because of the mobo/cpu.

definitely a slippery slope. I upgraded the cards, now I want to upgrade to a X38 and a more powerful psu.
