MAX safe volts on RAM 24/7?

    Hello all,

I have been wondering browsering those pages, I saw that many d9s died under high volts. I got myself a Mushkin XP2 8500 ( D9GMH) those are rated up to 2.35v under warranty, I was wondering what is actually max safe voltage for 24/7 , even so it is rated up to f.e. in my case 2.35, those rams getting nasty hot, and I dont like RMAs so , want to avoid it much as possible. I got a 80mm fan mounted on it tho, altho it doesnt covers the whole stick Pic: http://img120.imageshack.us/my.php?i...img0756pr1.jpg and i got 4x intake @ m sidepanel blowing on the mobo, considering this what would be the max safe voltage to run 24/7? Any help appreciated

    Depends..?
Volts isnt the only thing injuring your mem...

With a 80mm fan above, I wouldnt hesitate giving 2,65v - but hey, thats just me...

Yes... For benchies, 2,9-3,15 is quite alright, but only short session...

I don't generally go above 2.2v.. my ram gets incredibly hot under load even with just 2.2v

My max is 2.3V, any higher and you'll slowly degrade your ram.

Was running my DDR2-1000 Firestix at 2.1V, DDR2-667 and I still had a stick die, can't tell if the sticks are dying due to volts or manufacturing defects, had a high-CFM 80mm fan keeping them chill.

If you want to avoid RMAs I wouldn't go over 2.2v, I tried to run my OCZ up to the warranted voltage (2.35v) and it died. Lucky they replaced it. But now I don't run my RAM over 2.2v, and it's been fine so far.

I'd say 2.2v becouse at this voltage the heatsinks are already warm-hot under full load. 2.25v max with active cooling. it's not like you're going to put your ram sticks under full load for 24/7 so under 2.2v-2.25v they should be only feeling warm to touch.

I've had my ballistix tracers 8500 OCed to DDRII-1165-1175 at only 2.20v and they're only warm to touch WITHOUT active cooling.

    For 24/7 use, I wouldn't go higher than 2.1v.

even at 2.1 volt the heatspreaders of my Ballistix start to get quite hot so i personally dont run any higher. maybe 2.2/2.25 with a fan. unless you dont care about your rams health

Yep... im wondering 24/7 with active cooling... consider this from Eva2000, a self titled memory addict and very thorough reviewer.

I have gone through 3 sets of sticks at "rated" specs and its quickly becoming apparent that unless my current mobo is killing RAM, that the voltage is too much.... Im getting a new mobo tomorrow and will run my sticks at 2.30v... if they die, I'll RMA and try 2.1v with the active cooling.

TG are rated safe 2.45v ( at least gkx )

if 2.1~2.2 is the max, theres a lot of suicidal rams around

using active cooling with 2.3~2.5 i think ( perhaps you are not a luck guy ) it΄ll resist until you change or upgrade

but maybe im totally wrong, never tested more than 2.4

ait thnx all for your replys, well I do have a 80mm fan mounted on it, but I will keep that 2.1-2.2v range dont wana risk endin up with a death ram:X

I would also say 2.1-2.2 volts is safe, but, of course, with active cooling on your ram!

I was wondering the same thing myself....I have some Micron D9GMH chips in my Ballistix DDR2-800s, and I run 2.25V 24/7 @ DDR2-833, but this isn't my max.
My modules are pretty much room temp to the touch when idling, and I have a hard time feeling any heat when running Orthos blended or HCI Memtest....I have active cooling and excellent case cooling....
