in my other thread, "just pulled the trigger"... a kind fellow pointed me to asus forums where a few people were having issues and sent an email to asus. the response said that the p5w dh does not support the 7950gx2...

uve eased my tensions. any special settings in the bios i should be looking out for? bios version? (my plan for now is the 0078 as recommended by FCG in his lovely guide)

You need good CPU support to tell the difference in some games like Oblivion. When I first installed my 7950 GX2 I thought it wasn't working properly and I had my CPU at stock. I checked the driver CP and up to 16x AA was available so I was then fairly sure I was good to go. When I cranked my CPU up my FPS in one area in Oblivion where it was only 64 FPS @1600 x res shot up to 109 FPS. I remembered my X1900 XTX Crossfire setup supported by a X2 4400+ @ 2.84 GHz put up 124 FPS in the same situation so I discovered I simply needed to push up my CPU clock. You won't have that problem when you get your Conroe

    EDIT:

Here ya go. 7950 GX2 @ 571|775 for both shots, 16x AF @ 1600x res HDR active. I just loaded a saved game, didn't move and did a screen capture.

    CPU @ 3 GHz=63 FPS

    CPU @ 4.5 GHz=106 FPS

    CPU @ 4.5 GHz and 7950 GX2 stock 500|600=105 FPS

Finally, CPU @ 4.5 GHz 7950 GX2 stock with multi-gpu off in the NV driver CP=64 FPS

So if you are running a stock P 4 @ 3GHz or a D don't expect big things from dual GPUs. Looks like my CPU is holding it down even @ 4.5 GHz.

Guys i'm confused, how can it work when the ASUS dude on the phone said the 7950 will not work on the board Grrrrrrrrr holy crap, what is the truth in this ?
The only reason i'm getting the bad axe 304 is because the god damn 7950 was n't supposed to work on the ASUS board. lol

Damn it looks like it is working, so why the hell did the damn ASUS tech guy say it will not work, and why are some people having problems with it.

So no special BIOS needs to be on the Board? Just the latest one? ANd no hacked nVidia drivers are required?

By the way what BIOS version are you running, the latest BIOS for that board is version 0701 i think the link shows him running an older bios... are you sure ASUS didn't mess something up in the latest BIOS that does not allow that vid card from working?

My board came with 0502, works well so far. I literally hooked it all up and installed Windows with the 7950.

Was a little wacky before I got the drivers in windows, but really no problems whatsoever. I have no idea why Asus would say it doesn't work, maybe on an older board revision?

I got mine from the first Ewiz batch, so.. eh.
stuff goes here.. etc etc.. i win.. lalala.. pwn etc

I see, if i had a 100 percent guarantee the 7950 would work on that MB i'd get it.
But then again, i heard the Badaxe 304 supports 1333 FSB, which would be nice in the future with a quad CPU. hmmm damn. too many choices still.

Why would the second GPU on that 7950 be turned off?
