I doubt they ever signed an NDA. Intel can't control the 1000's of resellers out there.

What they can control is the handful of distributers that sell to the reslllers/retailers.

I'd be curious which distributer sold to the OP's reseller and find out who else buys product from them.

Who knows, maybe Intel is even allowing the distributers to ship early so the channle can start getting stocked in preperation for ther launch.

Intel's main concern is what the PC OEM's do vs. what the boxed processor reseller's do.

It must have been an error when they recieved stock.

One thing is obvious, processors are being sent to the distributors now. Big chips in stock at launch too.

3466 mhz is a wall I cannot breach - even with a monstrous copper tower heatsink pipe/massive 5000 rpm 92mm fan.

core temps are at 57-59C under load even with this thing (A thermaltake tower 112).

I guess I will have to wait until my 775 bracket comes in so I can take it under vapor phase.

indeed... ouch. The first conroe out is already dissapointing.

Are you sure the memory isn't limiting you? How about some benchies at your highest stable o/c

I have some weird stability issues I'm going to have to resolve - random reboots occuring at odd times (!), etc.

I'm running on barebones config until I can isolate what the problem is, so no benchmarks forthcoming (as it is, the system won't complete 3dmark06 - it will lock somewhere during 3dmark06's cpu1 test).

    * Did memtest86 - it rebooted in the middle of the test, but there were no errors during the testing that it found (unusual).

    - tomorrow I will swap out ddr2 memory to see if this is the source of the problem. Ugh.

    * I've swapped out power supplies. I had a 500W at first, swapped in a 600W - problems still occur. The 500W supply has the 8 pin connector, where the 600W supply has a 4pin connector that I had to use the 4 -> 8 pin adapter. The 975X manual says this is a bad idea for "Extreme Editions" but okay for regular processors. Considering the Conroe will consume less power, I'm assuming this is a non issue.

well, I managed to complete a run of 3dmark06. I had to clock my memory down to 533 from 800 to do it - so I'm suspicious of my memory - OCZ platinum DDR2-800 with SPD of 5-4-4-15. I'll see if some other generic ddr2 has the problem.

I am running 65C temps with the gigantic copper tower and jet engine fan under *full* load. The thing is mounted correctly (I swear), but I'll doublecheck it tomorrow and see what the deal is.

Maybe try reading temps with a thermocouple? or some other software (the one that really claims to read CPU temp, it was posted here some time ago)

Upping memory voltage to 2.2 from 2.0 appears to have made things stable. Stock voltage doesn't cooperate nicely with my system. Blast.

A couple of photos since I did promise I would upload when I got home:

The incredible thing about the box, which I will capture tomorrow when my camera battery is recharged, is that the packing date says: JULY 5, 2006. My CPU is literally fresh off the lot.

My stability problem appears to have resolved itself by upping memory voltage.

Not directly comparable. I see the gfx card use different drivers on the two rigs.

Something i've found in my E6300 testing, 975X seems to be VERY dependant on RAM. This G.Skill PC6400ZX i'm using just can't keep internal latencies tight enough, so i have to downclock it, and run with 5-6-6-18 timings.

ValueRAM isn't enough for Conroe, you need good quality PC6400 or higher if you want to overclock.

VERY nice 1000 point increase, just from the new CPU.
Be very nice if you could clock the E6600 down to 2.8ghz (or using FSB clock it up maybe, 7x400 does it for me), use the same drivers and do a direct, clock for clock comparison.

Ordered e6600 from costcentral. It showed in stock. I'm not really sure what I will do with it. I don't have a MB or DDR2 ram and can't afford it right now

These are SLI results, yes? Very interesting. My x2 4600 @ 3GHz plus 2x 7800GT stock do around 7300 in 3DM06, which is 1000 more than your second (single 7900GTX?) run. The Conroe is 25% more powerful there, though.

Ergo, I will have to OC the tits off my forthcoming E6700 to get a worthwhile improvement in performance.
